Renew Passport

Featured Replies

Posted this question in the Phuket section but thought it would get more traction here.

US Consular Service is coming to Phuket March 23. I would like to renew my passport then but 2 questions

1) Do they mail me the new passport? Ok by Thai mail service? How long for turn around?

2) How do I get my Visa transfered to new passport(triple entry tourist, one hit left)

Thanks,

P

I saw your post there but didn't respond because I'm not sure about passport by mail. My guess you will have to go to Bangkok Embassy to pick it up. They (Embassy) also will supply you with a letter to give to immigration to authorize the transfer of the visa stamp. Just take the old one with you after they notifiy you and they will give you the new passport and punch holes in the old one to void it.

Just came up with an idea, just e-mail the US Embassy and see what they say if a definitive answer can't be found here. :o

Followed TYwais excellent advice and e-mailed US Embassy in Bangkok. Less then 24 hours later recieved a reply stating Passports can not be mailed but must be picked up personally in BKK.

Glad that worked out well for you. :D

To answer the second part of your question. Go to immigration (I recommend doing it when you get home as it will probably be less busy) and they will transfer your visa into your new passport.

You might try emailing the embassy and asking if you can have someone pick up your passport for you, seems to me I remember something like that is allowed.

I vaguely remember that also. Ask them if a proxy can be used and what document you have to supply for the proxy.
