manarak
I'm located in the Pattaya area and will be looking to recruit Thai internet-IT staff. I know it won't be easy, but I am looking for your best ideas on how to find qualified staff for the following tasks: - Webdesign: masterful in HTML, uses CSS, understands templates and template engines. Able to design full CMS templates for wordpress/joomla/drupal. - Programming: PHP, MySQL, javascript Other skills I am also looking for: - javascript programming and AJAX (with PHP) - graphics design (Photoshop/GIMP, Flash or HTML5 animated videos) - unix server administration with knowledge in Debian, DNS, Mailserver, Apache, PHP, MySQL, Mod_security, etc. Thank you in advance for ideas
Jdietz
Hire four pretty Thai girls and sponsor a visa and WP for someone who can actually deliver. Will save you a lot of headaches in the long run.

innerspace
I can cover all those skills, but i am not available. Unless you're offering millions a month! However, I can speak from experience and tell you that while difficult (very) it is possible. I now have a team of 5 good programmers/developers and 3 designers, all based in pattaya. Location is an issue. Had so many that applied over the years and said no the moment pattaya was mentioned. Pattaya being in the title of the job description means they couldnt even read! English is another issue.... finding people in this role with good english will be harder. And having someone who doesnt understand the technical aspects as a translater is a recipe for disaster. My interviewing record was 11 out of 12 scheduled turned up. Not one of these 11 university graduates applying for a php job could post a basic form to a database. Look for experience not degrees. That said 3 of my current programmers were fresh graduates. But their talents shone through at the interview (3 in 1) and they have progressed greatly since. Don't expect to find all round experts. Look for specialists in their fields and back them up with other specialists, good training and good supervision.

How did you get applications, how did you find your current crew, where did you place your job adverts, where are job adverts effective?
innerspace
Very little luck with local sources, almost all sucess originated online. But advertise everywhere and expect a slow response rate, lower interview acceptance. Even lower interview attendance and very low success. But when you find the right ones, appreciate them! What is it your doing?
manarak
Thank you for these insights. I'm opening a small internet development shop/studio, not for working for customers but for realizing my own ideas. I'm a developer myself but have no resources left to expand my business ideas and also I seriously suck in several areas such as templating, CSS, design, graphics design and javascript. Basically the first skillset described in my first post. And some backups and additional workpower for the rest would not hurt either. barryw52
We find JobsDB or th.jobsdb.com will give you the best response but there are many others job web site here. You need to actually test their skills before you hire.

jimmybkk
When you speak to the recruitment website you're considering placing an advert with I would suggest you check to see how they match candidates with available positions. Some use an automated system whereby if a certain number of checkboxes on an applicants resume match a certain number of requirements on a position advertised then the applicant's resume is sent to you automatically. It means you get lots of resumes landing in your inbox but none of them have specifically applied for the job you're advertising. There are also 2 Jobcentres in Pattaya. One behind Big C Extra (ex-Carrefour) and the other on Soi 17 of 2nd Road. There is also a Manpower - at the Sukhumvit end of Chaiyapruek 1 or Chaiyapruek 2, I'm not sure which. Good luck with your search. As you already know, it probably won't be easy...

JDGRUEN
Try advertising for Thai nationals who happen to be living / working / studying in the U.S., U.K., Australia, etc. Some just might want to return home to work ..

manarak
If you are scared of spending money good luck with finding and keeping staff! Ah, if you like spending, you could send me some of yours, LOL! I didn't write I wouldn't spend it, I wrote the price for a job advert is quite substantial, so I'm thinking about launching a job portal myself !
