Help With Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

My brother and I are ready to book our flights to Thailand, but first would like to find out whether or not we need to apply for visas, and if so, how to apply.

We are both UK citizens. My brother is 21 and I am 28. We're planning on spending three months in Thailand...

Any help/advice would be much appreciated...

Thanks

Yes you should apply for tourist visas. They allow for a 60 day stay in Thailand and you can get an additional 30 days by applying for an extension at a Thai immigration office in Thailand. Alternatively you can fly out and in Thailand near the end of your 60 day stay and get 30 additional days just by entering Thailand by air. So you see, 90 days is doable. I would book your trip a few days short of 90 days to make this a more comfortable fit, visa-wise.

Also if you choose to go the airport in the UK without any visa, there is a good chance you won't be boarded at all on the plane to Thailand. If you are, you will get 30 days stay upon entry into Thailand by air.

For a stay of 3 months you will definately need a visa.

You have two option:

1. get a single entry tourist visa for 1,000 baht in local currency. This is good for 60 day and you can extend it in thailand with another 30 days for 1,900 baht.

2. get a double entry tourist visa, cost is 1,000 baht per entry so 2,000 baht. You will have a stay of 60 days on each entry and both entries can be extended by 30 days. After 60 days (or 90 if you take an extension) you have to elave Thailand enter another country and can come right back again to Thailand for another 60 days (+30). You might need to pay for the visa to enter the other country.

For 90 days the single entry and 30 day extension is probably the most easy and cost effective.

Appply by mail at the consulate in Hull.

Thanks guys...

Hey, me and a friend are planning a trip to Thailand, and hopefully visit Vietnam and Cambodia, and maybe Laos. We're going for 2 months, but planning on going pretty soon, possibly mid March time. So I was wondering do we need to apply for Visa's, as we'd be travelling about the country and going to the surrounding countries too, so we wouldn't be in one place for too long I suppose.

Also any other travelling advice would be greatly appreciated as this is the first time for both of us and we're a little unsure of that the score is.

Thanks

Airline may require a visa if you do not have exit ticket within 30 days on long haul flights so likely prudent to obtain in UK before your travel and remember visa exempt entry is only 15 days at land crossings (30 days for air arrival).

Thank you very much for the fast response. But, I am new to this and don't really understand your reply...so will one visa cover travel in multiple countries? For example I think we'll have 2 weeks in Thailand at first, then move on to Laos for a week, then to Vietnam for 2 weeks, then down to Cambodia for a bit and then back to Thailand. We're booking return flights from the end of March to the beginning of June.

Also how do we go about booking Visa's, and around how much will they cost?

Thanks.

The problem is your UK flight to Thailand if you do not have an air ticket out so for that leg a visa would be advised. Once in the area there is no problem using visa exempt entry or obtaining visas on arrival for the other countries. I would have a single entry visa for the UK flight to avoid any last minute issues. If not arrive early enough to buy a ticket out of Thailand if they require for boarding. Thai tourist visas cost 1,000 baht but not sure of UK exchange rate cost (always a bit higher).

Ok, its making a little bit more sense now thanks. One last question though, where can I apply for a visa before we leave the UK?

Thai Embassy in London or various Consulates around the UK.

Try Hull

Thank you for your help

  • 1 month later...

Hey, i'm getting confused about the visas now, I rang the Hull embassy and the woman on the phone was very hurried and completely unhelpful so I need to ask for advice again.

We're flying with Fly Emirates from London to Bangkok on April 7th and Returning on May 15th. During this time we're planning on travelling to Ankor Wat in Cambodia, then back to Thailand, for the time split it would be roughly 3 weeks in Thailand and 2 weeks in Cambodia in the middle of the trip.

I have checked this visa website http://thailand.visahq.co.uk/ and it states that the cheapest visa is around £72 for up to 90 days. Calculating the time we're going to be spending in Thailand it'll most likely come to less than 30 days, as we'd be spending time in Cambodia as well.

So I would like to know if the 30 day tourist visa exemption applies if you enter the country for say..14 days, then travel to cambodia for 10 days, then return to thailand for another 14 days; does the 30 day exemption reset once you leave the country, so we wouldn't have to buy an extended visa for what would more than likely not be used.

Thank you.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Single Entry Tourist Visa will cost £25

I thought the website I first found was a pricey. I think we've found the right visa we were looking for.

Thanks for your help guys.
