Rare Turtle Found In Sukhothai

Rare big-headed turtle found in weir in Bang Pong Fang village, Thung Saliam district in Sukhothai province. These tailed turtles were thought to be nearly extinct due to over-hunting and they've a become a protected species. They are thought to have medicinal purposes, similar to rhino horn.

It was presented to the local wat where it's being looked after in a specially constructed pond.
