Ukrainian Goes Berserk In Central Pattaya Convenience Store

What happened?

Usually the police officers "rush" to the scene

This time they just "arrived."

Obviously not in so much of a hurry when they get a report of a man armed with knives biggrin.png

You do realize the choice of words is made by Pattaya One News and not the police.

I doubt the reporters analyze & compare the response speed before fabricating ... reporting the news.

For that matter, when news sources report police statements regarding incidents, the sometimes illogical comments are more a product of a reporter's imagination and poor translating skills than an actual verbatim report of what was said.

Another quality tourist......

Or maybe another nice guy drugged by others. I wouldn't pass judgment until his side of the story gets out. If it ever does.

Drugged by others and given knives as well?

But what are those things that they carry in holsters on their hips ?

Not defending this guy's behaviour; however, its very possible that he has mental health issues...

May be true, but it's hardly going to win you this year's Nobel prize for forensic psychology.

I must say reading posts here. Lived here in the NE for years and have noooooo probs with the natives. Been down south a couple of times and was treated like a not so good person. Hmmm, made me think and perhaps understand what the natives have to deal with on a daily basis. Saying that, went to Lao in the north recently and felt similar stuff cos the hotel dealt with farangs doing visa stuff. We are very different .

That was my first impression, mental issues either natural of drug induced, illegal drugs like Ya-Bah or pharma like SSRI's that are making so many Americans go nuts and shoot people up or commit suicide. In the states the police would have dealt with the guy quickly and harshly. Maybe even just shot him since he had a weapon.

He might have been pissed off that his visit didn't meet the claims of the advertising. He expects a tropical paradise of happy smiling locals only to find that its full of hookers and that everybody is trying to rip him off.

"He expects a tropical paradise of happy smiling locals ..."

This pretty well sums up why so many farang on TV seem to be in a permanent state of rage. The expectation that they would come to Thailand and the unworldly natives would regard them "as gods who came on big metal bird in sky."

Then when it turns out the locals see most of them as cheap sex tourists and drunkards, their make-believe world comes crashing down around them and they have to vent one way or another.

and in these 3 hours the tourist police could not find out what the whole thing was about? or what 'M-I' sprayed on the ATM machine was supposed to mean?

3 hours of negotiations... that seems overengaging... shouldn't have taken me many minutes to realize that this situation would end up being resolved with maze and cuffs...

The guy spoke Russian so RTP waited for a western police volunteer to try & calm him down. Lucky for him the RTP didn't just shoot him as he had a knife in each hand. However their was a big crowd of Thais watching. The volunteer was quite brave as the guy tried to stab him as he was pepper sprayed

Attempted murder. Hanging a couple of knives out at the public, throw the book at him. Nail varnishing an ATM and you guys need to hear his side of the story? Vodka heroics? Get a grip...

M I - Mine, seems he was tagging the ATM so he could remove it at a later time. The knives were just being used to protect his property.

Amazing...If it's as the picture has been painted, it's simply amazing they tried to communicate with him for 3 hours... In US he would have about 3 seconds to ready himself for a 10 cop bum rush.

sorry if i am rud but the truth is,because i have seen it so many times around thailand, that a lots of foreigners who comes to thailand are really fuc_king creasy and stupid assels.

They give to the thai population a totally wrong idea about what we really are.

i say:Alcoolic, mad ones, criminals, stupid, assels, sex adict ...go back from where you are coming from or dont come at all.

info: since the USSR is broken south of europe like spain, france italy and more has been invaded by old soviet union people most of them war criminals, mafia, prostitution leader, guns seller etc etc...they look for hot countries mostly, and they came to thailand with all their infrastructure.

they are no joke ....they are not afraid, they are powerfull and have really a lot of money to convince.

But they remain a bad publicity for the rest of us who want to leave in peace here ,also because they will be called also farang by the thais who dont make the difference between an american or an europeen to a russian.coffee1.gif

Freedom of speech should be about the freedom to hate anyone we like.

You mean anyone we DON't like tongue.png

Intriguing to know what triggered his behavior and what that M I means. Maybe he had problems with the ATM eating his card or something?

As usual, we probably won't get a follow up on the story and will never know. I think I will still be able to sleep tonight though.

it was recorded by cameras from the shop ......so .....i dont know!

a bit long for such a case but always better than brutality and the american 2000 volt electric police gun.

One has to wonder where he procured the knives from? Couldn't be a restaurant, Thai's don't use them, if they did they would just bend easily. Could have brought them from the Ukraine I guess, in his checked bags.

Probably just bought them from a street vendor, along with some Viagra and some field glasses. thumbsup.gif

Drugs are your/anybodies choice. Nooooooooooooo excuses. coffee1.gif

Not when they are slipped into your drink or food in an effort to knock you out and rob or rape you.

This guy's behavior has the hallmarks of either drugs, a real bad reaction to alcohol, or mental health problems. I doubt we'll ever know which because if he was drugged (by someone else) that story won't get out because it would reflect badly on tourism.

Easier and better for tourism to just proclaim the guy a nutcase or drug user and send him home or to jail.

Whoa...Hold on there. I think most Westerners here think 'foreigner' only refers to them. Have you ever been in a hotel full of Chinese tourists? Do you have any idea of the havoc they can raise if anything goes wrong, or what they are capable of if/when they go on a bender? Ask any Thai hotel owner who they would rather have: a room full of Western tourists or a room full of Asian tourists. I'm willing to be they would prefer Westerners.

I have seen Asian tourists go completely out of control but for some reason that never makes the headlines. If a Westerner causes problems it's totally unacceptable, but if an Asian loses it, well, I guess they must have had a bad day.

But I do agree with many of the posters about the government/media legitimizing prejudice. It seems whenever they can fan the flames of ethnic bias they do so, reassuring Thais that it's only the foreigners causing all of the problems. However, if the slightest offense -- real or unintended -- is made about Thais or Thailand than it's a national issue.

Well, l have never had to deal with Chinese so can't comment but my comment still stands regarding my experiences. smile.png

He painted the letters “M” and “I”

R-A-C-L-E Thailand - should've let him complete that. rolleyes.gif

Dont think so, he cant even speak english so writing MIRACLE is way off the mark. Lets start with Ukrainian scripts, or just assume he was high on something judging his location and hour of going beserk.

Ukrainian script is a regular Cyrillic with an "i" thrown in. There is a krapload of words starting with M in Ukrainian, and I don't think the second letter was an I too. Anyway, unless there is a followup, all of our speculation is just... er... speculation
