Bizarre Development Names

Featured Replies

Someone brought it up in the other thread running about the pace of development but I've been meaning to start a topic to round up those bizarre development names.

To Richy Rich Land add:

The Benefits

The Twogether

The Esteem

and my current hard-to-beat favourite, Pillow 36

To us these names are bizarre but Thai's don't interpret English the way we do so to them these are trendy names. Seems to me if you have the money to be a developer you can call your development what you like. If other folks don't like the name then they don't have to live there but also seems to me that whatever the name they always sell them all in the end !

I always think the name "MyHip" condo is strange as it remind of hip replacement or some negative old farts but then again aiming how local customers interpreted it that matter the most.

Potential future projects once Richy Rich is sold out include Stinky Rich & Filthy Rich. And a new condo project could be "The Squat" laugh.png

Watch the old fart stuff. Consider us visions of things to come.wai2.gif

I also found "Malada" a bit iffy. Sounds like the French word for sick. (Chollypratty road, near the Samoeng intersection)

Speaking of French, there's also places called "Sida Apartment". (Sida being the french rendering of AIDS)

The Benefits

This 1303 roar be is

In BKK we have among others "Trendy Residence", "Happy Condo" and "The Complete". Building of "The Complete" was delayed and was therefore called "The IN-complete" for some months-.

Haha....this is one of my pet peves here. Naming a building "The Stylish" does not give it style. Just like those naming their bars...hi-so bar.

How about Jigsaw Condo?

Somchai scratches head ........ "Now where does this piece go? ........."

Serene.

When i build mine it will be.... 'Mega Super Bloody Rich Retirement Nest'

My personal favourite is not funny to most of you... TRAMS - it means 'nonsense' or 'poppycock' in Swedish.

I saw a sign advertising Sawadsee condo today. Might only have been one E not sure.

Then there is 'Serene Lake' , a new project with a billboard-ad showing a glorious picturesque image of a lake with mountain backdrop..... I wonder where they got that picture from because there is NO lake in the moo baan, although they could be "building" one thumbsup.gif

CM has "Home in the Park". How about "Trailer Park" biggrin.png

Saw a sign for "Villa Farang" but don't know if it was a moobahn or just some farang's house !

I have noticed how common it is for the word "view" to appear in the appartment or condo name...when the only apparent view...from any aspect...is concrete.

Then there is "The Wisdom" and a new much touted development on the road to Saraphi called "Diya Valley" which definitely isn't in or near a valley but may indeed be dire...

Sucre

Anyone that bought Astor recently ? I love the slogan ..."proud of the north" every billboard I see of that I can imagine someone telling his mate he bought a condo there and it's the proud of the north !

Personal favorite, The Wind in Bangkok. I know the feeling.
