Well, it's that time of year again when the annual marriage extension is approaching at Chaengers.

I know and have all the paperwork and the B400k has been tucked away under the bank's mattress for almost 2 months now. Anything new to report? Any goal posts moved, new regulations from this time last year or any surprises waiting to jump up and kick me in the proverbials!!?

Thanx

We completed the pack of forms that I collected two months earlier and took all of the other bits and pieces. The juniors who check applications asked for two more forms to be completed. Then the officer thought of another one. Additionally, for the first time, our marriage certificate was rejected. There's an additional document available from the Amphur which confirms that the marriage certificate is genuine. It would be easier to forge that than the marriage certificate. We had the additional document at home but didn't take it because it has never been needed in the past.

All was competed the same day. I'm glad that the Immigration office is close to home.

My understanding is that, if you haven't had THB400,000 in the bank for three months or don't have proof of the necessary income, you won't get an extension. However, there are agents and lawyers ......

You were probably asked for the khor rhor 2 form, which is the entry into the marriage register. (The wedding crtificate itself being the khor rhor 3).

The khor rhor 2 can be gotten from any amphur if recently married and is used to show that you are indeed still married. That is why you need a new one at some immigration offices every year.

Rule is money in the bank for two months, not three.

remember some places are even asking for the original Affirmation to Marry.

I know Beano. That's a bit of a worry for me as mine cannot be found in the Chiang Rai Amphur. Mind you, that was lodged over 10 years ago and other posters have assured me that it's usually needed for first timers only.

Fingers crossed!!!

I will be doing this in a couple of weeks, what happens if the 400k has been in the bank for less than 2 months?

2 Months is the requirement and you wont get the extension.

You can get a 60 days extension. This would give you time to season the money for the required 2 months.

Our khor rhor 2 is more than three years old and they accepted it.

Thanks for the correction regarding the time period for the bank balance. Local expats. here all believe that it's three months. Perhaps some of the requirements are modified locally but I'll check this one.

2 months for subsequent Marriage extensions. Forget what the initial tenor was for first time applicants; 3 months?

It is 2 months for every extension based on marriage, inclusing the first.

(For extensions based on RETIREMENT the rule is 2 months the first extension, 3 months every other).

Some immirgation offices reportedly anted to see 3 months for an extension based on marriage, but unsure if they are still asking for that.

I have Non Imm O visa based on marriage for which I get each year extension based on income (400K +) in my country of origin and paperwork certified by my Embassy in BKK

Until now all our money was on joint accounts of me and my Thai wife abroad as well as in Thailand.

It seems more simple to have 400.000 Baht on a bank account two months before the day of (re) application of the extension (or is to 2 months before the day that the ongoing extension expires?)

Do I have to send this money from an account abroad only in my name or is a joint account (abroad) with my Thai wife also an acceptable source?

Can I eventually ask a third person ( a friend who owns me money) to transfer the 400K+ money to the account in Bangkok which will be used to "season" the 400K+ for two months?

May conclude that I can also transfer money from the joint account with my Thai wife in a Thai bank to the account only in my name name (with the same bank)?
