Can I Use A Metal Detector Anywhere Or Do I Need A Licence?

Featured Replies

hi! as a confused farang in thailand i fancy starting a new hobby! where can i get a metal detector? cheaper in england? if i am checking out various places. do i need a licence? ta i am in chiangmai.... anybody want to join me? lol

Sounds fun. You probably don't need a licence, but if you ask, the amphur etc authorities would probably say you do.

Just don't let 'authorities' see you use it (police, forest rangers etc).

Sadly, I have no idea where you could get one! (I could tell you a place in Hong Kong.....)

I have seen them used on the beaches looking for lost change etc. A quick google brings up Thaimetaldetectors.com which is in English with prices from 24,000 to 200,000 Baht.

Cheers

A friend of mine found a $6000 engagement ring with a metal detector on koh samui . An interesting fun hobby, be prepared for lots of ring pulls and nails though.
