The Survival-Force Of A Tjing Tjok

Featured Replies

As some tjing tjoks, tjik tjaks or common house-gekos are getting more lazy-domesticated they roam around over the kitchen work-top and sometimes I had to rescue one out of the kitchen-sink as they don't seem to be able to climb stainless steel.

A couple of days ago one managed to get in between some food, prepared for the freezer.

By coincidence he managed to warn me when I had to take something out of the freezer after he was already around three hours under polar-circumstances.

After I conforted him and warmed him up some time in my hands he runned away and started roaming around again to get easy food............

I often give my lizard a rub with my hand as well...

I would have been more careful when it had been a Tokay Gecko smile.png

We have 7 Tokays in our house, they some times come down and watch a bit of TV with us. I reached for a shirt in my closet the other day and grabbed a tokay, I am not sure which of us was more startled. We have both been more careful since then.

Unfortunately, their survival instinct also leads them to run into the gap around doors and windows as you are pulling them shut.

Ouch! No, here they are more afraid and luckily they don't call (wake me up) during the night! I like them helping us with cleaning out insects although once I found one dead stung by a bee he tried to kill. At the end both were dead.

Ouch! Here less and more afraid. Might be they are eaten by the Golden Tree Snake. I'm happy that they don't wake me up in the night with their call!

I try to avoid killing them by closing careful but sometimes you crush them indeed sick.gif

Enjoy your toast, anyway it's clean meat! They have a lot of natural (like the kitty I had) and not-natural enemies but they are reproducing fast as I find frequently at least three egs in hidden places as power-sockets and printers of which they were able to destroy two in the mean time.................. 1zgarz5.gif

Last night on the front porch I saw a big head peeping down from the eves. Got the flashlight and Wow!

he was nearly 60cm. No small Geckos to be seen as they Tokay eat them. Understand if they bite they don't let go.

Have a laser pointer? Want to have some fun if you are bored? Put the spot on the wall and watch them chase it. Can be quiet entertaining. However, because they will chase the spot, I use it to direct them to the bug I see crawling or landing on the wall. Easier than getting up and finding the fly swatter.
