How To Pay Tax In Thailand....

Hello. I posted this topic in the wrong place this morning and this hopefully is the correct place now.

Hello all, I hope I am posting in the right place.

I am a British guy and always had my tax taken care of.

I would like to get some help on paying tax from start to finish here in Thailand.

I have my tax code and that's about it.

Where do I go and what do I do?

I understand returns need to be made before 31st March.

Half a day has passed and nearly a 100 views. No comments, then I realised I made a boo boo.

Any thoughts on the subject folks?

Here goes correct me and/or help me please...

Do I need to go get a tax form from the tax section at the Amphur or do I download it?

Do I have to produce letters from employers stating pay and the likes?

If I have had time out of work during the tax year what do I do?

When do I pay? (I take it before the 31st?)

Anything else?

Yes I have a job. I worked for 11 of the 12 months last year.

No tax taken. Was informed I would have to do it myself. Private Chinese school, left now.

You didn't get a letter in the mail from the Revenue Department?

Best you go to your nearest regional RD office and explain the situation there.

You didn't get a letter in the mail from the Revenue Department?

Best you go to your nearest regional RD office and explain the situation there.

No letter no. I will head to the office though.

It turns out my old school was working the books claiming I was only paid 15k per month. Would that mean I am under the taxable bracket as i worked 11 months. Tricky Chinese f**kers.

It turns out my old school was working the books claiming I was only paid 15k per month. Would that mean I am under the taxable bracket as i worked 11 months. Tricky Chinese f**kers.

You will in any case need an annual income statement from that school stating your gross annual salary in 2012 and how much income tax was withheld

and how much contribution to social security fund was withheld from that salary. These three figures are stated on that annual income statement.

It is the required supporting document for filing income tax.

If I am not mistaken, under THB 150K one is exempt from paying tax.

Above that, you have standard deduction (i.e. personal expense at 40% of annual gross income but maximum of THB 60K) and allowances that you can then also deduct,

such as personal allowance at THB 30K, followed by spouse and child allowance (if you have a spouse and children here),

and then also the contribution to the social security fund.

All these you deduct from annual gross salary, to arrive at the taxable income, for which the first tier is 10% (for if your taxable income is between

THB 150K and THB 500K).

It would seem in your case (11 x THB 15K = THB 165K) you are not liable for income tax (but don't take this as advice), however, you still have to file for tax return.

I called the school and the arrogance and lack of knowledge is astounding. They claim to know it all and have left me with hardly anytime to get my things together.

Just to share:

I filed my income tax today, in person, at RD service center.

I paid the entire amount payable.

Then I requested an official receipt, stating it was for visa/work permit purposes.

A receipt was written out and stamped, for which I had to pay 18 baht.

Then I was good to go, albeit a bit lighter.
