March 11, 201313 yr I've been in Pattaya for nearly a week now, with the Mrs., and I find myself coming up with small errands to run to have an excuse to have a couple drinks after.. Is that normal? I suddenly now realized why people take up golf, too. Can't be because people enjoy hitting a ball with a stick in the blazing heat, can it. Ok, Time for my 7 day notification at the immigration office. :-)
March 11, 201313 yr Mate ... when I read that ... I presumes that you meant doing a small favour for a friend, could turn out wrong and you end up in Jail. Nice to know it was just a drinking excuse ... .
March 11, 201313 yr It is a sign you are out of the rat race and enjoying life...you have your own schedule to follow--no one elses.
March 11, 201313 yr Lying to ye wife will only lead to prob....Nah <deleted> it ,nothing wrong with telling little porkies so ye can get out for a sha... er pint.
March 12, 201313 yr Author I'm also rethinking the double pricing concept, it is actually a good thing because you legitimately don't ave to join the wife and kids when they go for some dolphin, tiger or monkey show, and gain some personal monkey time instead! It's also great that bars are open during the day. In Chiang Mai there are only a couple, and then mostly places for sad alcoholics. Edited March 12, 201313 yr by WinnieTheKhwai
March 12, 201313 yr Popular Post It's also great that bars are open during the day. In Chiang Mai there are only a couple, and then mostly places for sad alcoholics. No shortage of sad alcoholics in Pattaya. In fact many of them probably started by just going out on an errand to get away from the wife. Personally when I want a beer I just take it out of my fridge. I have never been tempted to drink more than a couple a day, and never start until after sundown either.
March 12, 201313 yr I do small errands almost every day and I never having a beer when doing it, sometimes a cup of tea or lunch. Drinking alcohol in daylight is something I don't really enjoy anymore, don't know why, but after dark is another matter.

Yes WinnieTheKhwai, unfortunately Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are very limiting and far too many Restrictions and Judgemental persons. I feel Chiang Mai is only a Bigger version of Chiang Rai (Two streets of Bars instead of One. And the same Drink only game by Ladies there.) I prefer having western things available when I need, and the ability to have a good time instead of at a Bar full of Man Gossipers. So after nearly 8 years in the North, I have moved back to civilization. Even if it is more crowded and not quite what it used to be. I live out a short distance in a quiet beach area, and not too long to get into the City. Best of Both Worlds.

One of the great things about Pattaya. You can't go anywhere w/o passing by a bunch of bars. And not just bars--go-go bars! Plus, we have only happy alcoholics here. March 12, 201313 yr Drinking in the day is a problem happening. Making excuses to visit a bar all the time is the sign of alcoholism. You need to change you life, while you still have it.

Interesting going into Tehitian Queen go-go in daytime. Takes time for the eyes to adjust after being out in the daylight. But nice to have a view in the afternoon.. Then again, a Soi between soi 5 and soi 6/1 always has a nice view and specializes in afternoon delights. Edited March 12, 201313 yr by KimoMax

March 12, 201313 yr Author Drinking in the day is a problem happening. Making excuses to visit a bar all the time is the sign of alcoholism. Drinking is not the primary reason actually; it's more some personal downtime, chat a bit, etc. If I do drink during the day then of course I don't drink at night; usually an early night too in that case. And today didn't drink at all; went to Sri Ratcha to find a reasonable shop to do some work on the truck, and then went to Koh Sichang while they were doing it. There's really a lot to see in the area besides bars. However every once in a while.. Edited March 12, 201313 yr by WinnieTheKhwai
March 12, 201313 yr Drinking is a waste of money so I never stock any at home. If I feel the urge to drink I go to a stone table and join in with the usual culprits.. lots of germans around I noticed

March 13, 201313 yr Drinking is a waste of money so I never stock any at home. If I feel the urge to drink I go to a stone table and join in with the usual culprits.. lots of germans around I noticed Drinking is good for you, hardly a waste of money. Best to spread it out during the day, too, rather than binge at night. "Daytime is playtime." Have you checked out the table and benches outside Foodland?
March 13, 201313 yr Author Have you checked out the table and benches outside Foodland? No, but it sounds horrible. I like a bit of a chat and people watching. But not just any people, and probably not Foodlanders. (Foodlandians? ) I almost laughed out loud last night when I went to the evening food market on the Jomtien Bypass road (called Rom Pho (Rom Bodhi) Market according to Facebook) which is a totally normal fresh market and night food market, with sane prices and everything, but to my surprise there is a BIG number of bars there too! ( I'm imagining Pattaya City Council urban planning meetings where someone suddenly comes to the microphone and says "WAIT.. we need more bars here, and here, and here [points at map].". Then everyone nods in general agreement. )
March 13, 201313 yr Have you checked out the table and benches outside Foodland?at these temperatures sitting at you local mall/market in the open? sounds like pure pleasure. =-)
March 13, 201313 yr Have you checked out the table and benches outside Foodland?at these temperatures sitting at you local mall/market in the open? sounds like pure pleasure. =-) Hey-- Been going on for years, just more Westerners in Pattaya now, therefore more noticeable. Foodland is a reasonable location, you do not have to put up with boring BGs.It makes a lot of sense for people who want to drink outside the house but don't want to be bothered or pressured by BG's looking for business. You don't want to get into an argument w/ tropo do you? If so, god help you. --http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/615184-we-all-have-seen-the-7-11-drinking-but-whats-with-friendship-supermarket-drinking/page-5#entry6100095 Actually I was referring to that most entertaining thread, which you may have missed, in which the effete member lemoncakes sniffed at that particular drinking location and expressed his laughable belief that Pattaya proper is in fact more conservative than the liberal Darkside--where, despite its more freewheeling attitude, he's never seen anybody drinking in front of the 7/11 on his soi. March 13, 201313 yr Author Speaking of drinking, I am noticing how eager people are here suggesting having a beer. I was having lunch at Daeng-Dam, the long running restaurant on Central Road (on the left before 3rd Road intersection when coming from the beach) and it is truly excellent as a regular local place for some noodles or rice including some more fancy stuff like Tom Yam noodles with big shrimps, but anyway the point is that after ordering water and ice coffee to drink, the waitress volunteered: "We do have beer..?".. See I never get that in other places in Thailand. The assumption here must be that Farangs should have beer with everything, be it on the beach or with their noodles for lunch.
