Cheapest Way To Buy Drinking Water In Chalong Area?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm staying in Chalong for six months to train Muay Thai. As you can probably imagine, from training twice a day, I go through a hell of a lot of water (nearly 10 litres a day). Up until now I've been buying 6 litre bottles from 7/11s, for 35 baht each, and since I'm on a budget, it's all adding up. Last time I stayed in Chalong to train, there was a little store near my bungalow that sold those much bigger, more heavy duty water bottles, and it worked out much much cheaper than what I'm doing now. Does anybody know anywhere in Chalong (preferably near Soi Tad-ied) where I can get those bigger water bottles? Ideally I'd like to have it delivered directly to my bungalow...

Thanks in advance

Here in Kata the car from Kata Green Water comes and change the 20 liter bottles we have. 100 baht deposit for each bottle, 10 baht to get a new one full. I'm not sure the same company operates in Chalong, but most areas have a water car like that.

Ask the people around your home who is delivering the 20 liter water tanks. Neighbors, small shops and small restaurants. They have the best local information.

If it's the soi that I'm thinking of, ask at one of the restaurants that you use in the area (probably best advice from Tony at his place). You might be better getting a bottle when you need it from a shop/restaurant as the delivery trucks are pretty sporadic in their timings and you could find yourself hanging around for a long time waiting for their delivery.

At least when you buy the mineralised water from 7-11 there is some form of quality control. Those drums of water could be filled up out of a tap. I certainly wouldnt be drinking from them.

You may get the impression of "quality control" but then those waters are bottled in Thailand too. So, could be just as hit/miss as any other.

I've been drinking the 20 liter bottled water for many years with never an ill effect. And to me it tastes better than many of the 'mineral' waters from 7-Eleven do. And yes it is great value, for home use (cooking, coffee, etc.) for sure.

More and more those 20 liter white bottles are not smelling nor tasting good. It seems quite a lot of them have a heavy petrol smell and I give those to the garden. This trend has been getting worse over the past few years, so it's not a low water issue.

@steelepulse Time to change supplier?

At least where I live we have few different suppliers for the water. The 'brands' are differentiated by the color of the seals on the caps.

I haven't noted similar issues with any of the bottles.

even the refill machines on the side of the road are not bad - 1thb 1 ltr
