Lease Agreement Required To Apply For Driver Licence?

Featured Replies

So I just got turned away from sitting my driver licence in Lumpon because I didn't have a copy of my lease agreement.

I had a medical cert, residence cert and copies of all required passport pages. But was unable to apply because I didn't bring my lease agreement and ID's of the home owner.

Talked to the managers assistant who also said these were required documents...

I must of looked through 5 different web sites and none say a lease agreement is needed.

I'm going to be in Chiang Mai for a few days so will give it try there and see how I go.

different offices, different rules... me thinks.... can say they ever asked me for anything like that when I got my DL

I hear Patts is very easy.

Requirement is proof of address. This can be a letter from the embassy/consulate or immigration. A work permit or a yellow tambian bahn (condo owner) are also acceptable. However, immigration may require a copy of the lease and owners ID. But as said, different offices ...

I tried to use my house papers here in Pattaya, but no luck. Had to go to immigration to get a residency certificate. I tried to argue that I just did my visa last week and they ALWAYS verify your address. No good. Makes too much sense.

I already had a residency cert but they wanted a rental agreement as well. I tried explaining to them that I couldn't of got the residency cert without already proving my address but they weren't having a bar of it.

Different
horses, different courses mate.

I just
renewed my Thai driving license…..Don’t start me off.

Funny thing
is proof of residency was one thing along with copy of passport and old license…
No medical, I’ve never ever had to produce this anywhere for anything in
Thailand……..so far.

Come on guys
we know the score…You have to go and ask at the desk what they want, then you
go away and get it all….Go back and hope you see the same person!

And yer in
most cases a residency cert won’t cut it with them, you need a letter from the consulate
or a copy from your house book, (yellow)

I used a letter from the police which was also acceptable . This was out in the sticks though . I didn't have a visa at the time . Photocopied an old one and they were none the wiser .

Different rules everywhere got mine with proof of residency, on tourist visa when they clamped down on non O. Even extended to 5 years on tourist visa , by the way Issan.
