Advice appreciated ...

I have had a marriage visa and work permit for over 7 years .. This year I have been advised by immigration that as I have a marriage visa and am supporting a Thai Wife I do not need to renew the work permit ...

Correct or not ...?

Thanks

Immigration can only say you can stay or not - they have no authority over work permits. Believe they are saying you do not need to have a work permit to extend your stay as you are doing that on basis of Thai wife and meet the financials for that method.

No .. my accountant has been doing this for many years and this is a 1st ..

PS I already paid her & she will refund me the fee ..so nothing in it for her

Have no idea what you are talking about - my post was extension of stay information and you return to talk about your accountant and skimming which I said nothing about.

Sorry to be unclear .. Marriage visa is fine ..no problem

But because I have that visa I have been told I do not need to re-apply the work permit

If you own a business I don't believe you need a work permit unless you work for;the business. If you only own the business then you should not need a work permit, your reason to be in Thailand is due to marriage.

my way of thinking about this issue.

Extensions of stay from Immigration could be for employment or marriage. If for employment you would need to show them a work permit but if for marriage you would not.

But if you are actually working (signing any paperwork in company name) you will need a work permit for that employment.
