Does anybody know where/what government dept issues licence for a bar.

What about music licence , either live or background do you require a licence for that also ?.

Cheers.

I would suggest that the first thing you do is find a qualified, capable and recommended accountant.

.... and probably it would be best to put an ' s ' on license. , as there are a number of them.

If you would like further, please PM me as I have some little knowledge on this topic.

You need an alcohol license from the government office centre in Mae Rim which costs around 1600฿. If you intend to sell cigarettes you need a further license costing 20฿ . If you are going to sell food you need a one of restaurant licence from an office further down Mae Rim rd. as Gonzo says if you are a Farang starting out on your own, find a good accountant. If you have a competent Thai wife, as I have, she may be able to achieve these on her own!

There is only one true company in Thailand that handles international music licenses. Every other one are scams. More info here:

That's not to say that even if you have a music license from them the other scam artists will not come into your bar and try to drag you to the police station. But if you do some research you will know how to handle them.

Depends where your bar is (Amphur) - what you are selling (beers and Thai rum, foreign spirits, cigarettes, off license, etc) and if you are a café/restaurant and want a drink license or a full bar. Drinks license could be anywhere from 50 baht to 1600+ baht. You will also need to pay Amphur taxes and register for signage as well (Thai, mixed or foreign are different process per year per square metre) and includes signs on the bar/café front (above the door/window).
