April 10, 201313 yr A small reminder: All government offices, inclusing immigraiton will be closed on Friday 12th of April and open again on Wednesday the 17th. Friday 12 April extra government holiday Saturday 13 April songkran Sunday 14 April songkran Monday 15 April songkran Tuesday 16 April substitute holiday In otherwords, tomorrow the 11th and Wednesday the 17th are going to be very bussy. Note that if your permission to stay ends during a day Immigration is closed and you want to apply for an extension of stay you can do so on the 17th without needing to pay an overstay fine, as the 17th is the first day they are open again. You can always apply early for an extension of stay, the extesion starts when your current permission to stay ends so you don't lose any days by extending 1 or 2 weeks in advance. (You can even apply up to 30 days in advance). Edited April 10, 201313 yr by Mario2008
April 10, 201313 yr Thank you Mario. I was due to go to Immigration on the 12th to see if my extension based on marriage was back from HQ. Telephoned them this morning and they advised to go on the 17th, no problem. They did emphasise that whilst there would be no "overstay" charge, I should not leave the country before visitng them on the 17th. Just in case anyone else in the same situation. Easy to forget these little details sometimes.
April 10, 201313 yr At most locations application for extension is only accepted during the last 30 days of current permitted to stay - Jomtien has been reported to allow 60 days but have not seen/noticed any recent first person reports. Some have accepted earlier with valid reasons such as travel but on a case-by-case basis but not sure if this still happens..
April 10, 201313 yr Oh my buddha thankfully i updated mine at Wang Prachan Thai-Malaysian border today...highly recommended if youre in the south...cost 0 baht and no line what so ever...I was the only farang there.
April 10, 201313 yr quick question: Is 30 days the maximum allowed for extending visa in advance? It depends what visa you have...do you have tourist or some kind of non-immigrant visa?
April 11, 201313 yr But I made an appointment on 16 April for re-entry permit yesterday? It didn't let me choose 12 april so I choose 16 april. I wonder if my appointment transferred to 17 april automatically. Filling that extra long and detailed online form is a pain in the @ss.
