Lisa28 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Hi, Has anyone tried the Sirocco restaurant which is on the 63rd floor of the State Tower? I would be interested in dining there..... If you have been there would you recommend it? Thanks, Lisa
flightcrew1 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Yes. Have tried. Though the view is great the food is just ok. Expensive! If it truly great food I would not mind but it was just "ok". Better suggestion is to go and have drinks at the bar either inside or out. Great views and normal hotel bar prices. If it a view restaurant you looking for the Vertigo at the top of the Banyan Tree is much better. Good food and half the price of Sirocco. They also have bar with comfortable seating though it's limited with delicious cashew nuts refilled all the time!
Lisa28 Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 Thanks flightcrew.... I think I might check out your suggestion
vegas Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I was there last Friday. Our bill for 3 people came to 13,000 including wine. Food was good, but too expensive. We were lucky that there was a fireworks display that night. View is sensational. Beers were 290 ++. The wind was so strong that it nearly blew my beer glass of the table.
Momenthai Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I had dinner at Scirroco and really enjoyed it. As everyone else says it's not cheap but there's not many places in the world where you can have dinner in an open top restaurant on the 63rd floor of a building. I thought the food and service were both excellent and would recommend it. I haven't eaten in Vertigo but my girlfriend has and she said she prefered the food in Scirroco. I've also eaten in the Italian restaurant at Scirroco which is on the 64/F (but inside) and that was also good but to be honest it wasn't really better than other Italian restaurants in Bkk such as Gianni or Zanotti's but was more expensive. As one of the other posters said you can go to either Scirroco or Vertigo for just drinks and then head somewhere elso for dinner. I've done that a few times when I have friends in town, I prefer Scirroco but usually end up in Vertigo as it's more convenient for where I live

Worth a visit for dinner while in town; at this time of year it is hot but up there seems not too unpleasant with the breeze....
bkkjosh Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 The food at Vertigo has always been above average in my experiences. The views are fantastic as well, but you must book well in advance to get a table on the outside. Sirrocco is a lot more expensive but good as well, for different reasons. The view is different, they usually have good specials, the staff probably aren't as good though. Drink prices are quite high when you compare them to other 5 star hotels in bangkok.
cclub75 Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Starter + main course + desert + wine for 2 people = 7000 THB. I love the view (better than Vertigo). The service is really good, discrete and efficient. But the food is... too rich. Well... heavy. Vertigo : the place is smaller, some bad smell/smoke come from the kitchen on one side (be sure to choose a table opposite). The food is disappointing. Last point for Sirroco : be lucky and don't go an evening when it will rain... Because they move the guests inside the dome, a big area with no decoration, no view, nothing... Then you face alone your plate, and you start to feel depressed.

poorfarang Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I enjoyed it. Have some drinks at Distil first. Nice views there as well. A coke will run you 300+ baht
Blake7 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Actually they have changed the set up with the stairs going by the kitchen in vertigo now so the smell problem is resolved. Vertigo is smaller than Scirrocco but in my opinion much better. As other posters have pointed out the servive is excellent. However I find the menu quite limited and the wine list adequate at best. Scirocco has good food but somehow I don't like it much.
Tripsev Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Im visiting Sirocco on saturday night! First time in Bangkok. What kind of cost am I looking at for a 2 course meal with a beer or two (no WINE!) I hear the wine is the expensive bit he he. Looking forward. Probably try and do Banyan on Sunday too!

I hear the wine is the expensive bit he he.Looking forward. Probably try and do Banyan on Sunday too! Your probably looking at 5,000 all up for dinner for 2 at Sirocco as long as you only have a couple of beers and of course depending on what you order (there are always exceptions). Not wanting to change the course of the thread but the other day I saw some paper work on how to become a platinum member of banyan tree hotels which entitles you to either 20% or 25% (depending on which level of membership you have) off the cost of food at Vertigo. The 2 tiers are 6,000 and 10,000 and each include a free night of accomodation in the banyan tree bangkok. They also offer higher discounts on their non-signature restaurants. Certainly would be a proposition if you were regularly taking guests there or dining on a regular basis.
papaya9 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 (edited) I concur that the food is so-so at these rooftop sites. One night there were so many d@mn dragonflies buzzing around it wasn't funny. Perhaps becaust the Chao Phrya is right there. Edited April 27, 2006 by papaya9
