To ivan_m (sorry, I can’t quote your post), From memory (I’ve applied for both the SETV and METV) the applications are quite similar, unless things have changed (quite possibly), but when applying from the UK (Oct 2025) the only financial evidence required was ’An amount of no less than 20,000 THB (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, sponsorship letter)’. The other supporting documents needed were: ‘Biodata page of Passport or Travel Document’, ’Photograph taken within the last six months’, ’Document indicating current location’ (I uploaded a bank statement for the previous weeks transactions), ’Travel booking confirmation’ and ’Proof of accommodation in Thailand (e.g., accommodation bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand)’. So no, nothing about tax. Maybe what you’ve heard was related to people using their tax return to meet the ‘Document indicating current location’ requirement, or it’s the right of abode thing you mentioned? If applying for a METV in September I may use a re-entry permit if favourable to my dates, which could perhaps also benefit you with your future comings and goings, allowing you to still use the SETV, unless I’ve got it wrong.
