Dentists - Better To Go In Cm Or Bangkok?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm holding off on some long overdue dental work that needs doing as Thailand is obviously way cheaper than London (and I've heard very good)

Can anyone recommend a good one in CM? Or am I better off getting it done in Bangkok before coming up to CM?

Thanks

Lots of good dentists in Chiang Mai

Grace Dental Clinic

Elite Smile

Empress

Dental 4 U

+ + +

For starters.

You will find threads if you search with various comments.

Also, depends on what dental work you require.

There are lots of great dentists in Chiang Mai. I go to the RAM dental clinic as I have had many good experiences there over many years, but there are cheaper places.

Thanks guys

Well, I know I have a broken molar right at the back (over a year ago it broke off, part of a filling that didn't work) so that needs fixing. There will no doubt be a cavity on the adjoining tooth.

I had a good root canal done in London about a year ago so a check up on that is in order.

I want teeth whitening done too! Never had it done but they need doing - laser style.

Thanks.

I only use Dr. Joy (endodontist) at Elite Smile for root canal work, she is first class and will be guided by you regarding the anaesthesia level, which is a big plus for me.

Dr. Jarunee at Empress is by far the best for cleaning, but she gets heavily booked.

Other recommendations will follow.

It's best to have the work done in the place where you will be for the longest time - in case of the need for follow up. Over time I have had work done on 3 molars, where a large filling had caused the tooth to eventually break. Each of them required considerable work despite the fact that they were not bothering me - surgical gum lowering, root canal and crown - not a one day procedure.

All were done for me at Suvit Polydental Clinic (CMU), across the street from Chiang Mai University, Faculty of Dentistry. They were recommended to me by associates at CMU, Faculty of Medicine. They have staff for all varieties of problems, and are directed by Asst. Prof. Suvit from CMU. Not the cheapest but pricing is moderate. All staff speak English, but poorly in the case of reception - phone 053-280410

I have had quite a bit of dental work (4 visits in last 6 months) done at Elite Smile in Pantip Plaza - new crowns and whitening. Good service, not painful and results seem as good as in my home country (Australia) - all for much less than half the price.

Dr Soontaracharn is very nice, quietly-spoken guy, and a fantastic dentist. He and his staff speak good English. He was recommended highly to me, and I have used his services. In the middle of the old city.

No. except avoid what used to be called 'Siam Dentist' when they were at the MBK center and then moved to Sukumvit 13 and are now called 'My Dentist'..I had various visits and I'm not happy with their filling work or their whitening procedure...now living in Phuket old town but have found and use great dentist in Patong Beach...

Me and my fiancee had our teeth checked fixed and cleaned she had 5 cavities fixed and i only had my teeth cleaned as i didnt have any cavities in total we payed 3000 bath for the two of us and that was at Future Park Rangsit dont remeber the name of the dentist but the dentist spoke english and they did a good job...much cheaper than some of the international clinics...one internatipnal clinic wanted 10.000 for exactly the same job with exactly the same resin for filling cavities...

For starters I completely agree with you if you are living permanent in Bangkok get a dentist there.

I wonder if the OP posted in the Bangkok forum. I am sure there are many good dentists there also.

I live in Chiang Mai and use elite smile clinic in Pantip. There are many other recommended Dentists but I have received excellent treatment there and am not going to start dentist hoping to save money. I know what I get at elite smile and am not about to take a chance on receiving equally good service to save a few baht.

It seems to me that most farangs have played a role in jacking up the dental prices in CM. What else can you think when these clinics post their rates in USD alongside the THB? Tell me! Even in Bangkok, I don't think many do that. What's next? Post the rates in British pounds, Australian dollars, and Euros? Why are they not posting in Chinese dollar, RMB?

I just had 2 root canal treatments at the special clinic at CMU, Each tooth was B6,000. Cheap? Sure, as the Endodontist, who also works at one of the aforementioned "farang" clinics, told me. Each root canal treatment took less than half an hour! To me, it's expensive. Why? TIT, where you can't compare to your home country where the minimum wage per hour is about the same as the minimum wage per day without fringe benefits!

For less serious cases, local dentists could probably do the job. Can we hear from them?

It's not about saving a few bahts! Imagine, one dental impant runs you 60k to 70k. For sure, you will be charged 70k, like the root canal treatment which some clinics run a price of 2,500 to 9,000. Why such a big range? How much do you think you will be charged?

A root canal that takes less than half an hour you say, why not ask any dentist in your home country about that and see what they have to say!

Thanks guys, good tips.

I'm going to be living in CM for a year so Smile Clinic it may be, looks very modern and prices (despite what the poster said about local prices) are still way cheaper than London (although I appreciate his point) I guess I'm paying for the previous experiences of other Westerners to vouch for the place and to know they cater to international clients.

I may take the time while in Thailand to have all the amalgam/mercury fillings in my mouth drilled out and replaced with white fillings too. What is the best white filling on the market these days that is non-toxic? (obviously I will do my own research first but any pointers would help)

Next step is to ween myself of sweets and sugars! (addicted I think) I don't take it in tea or coffee anymore but I eat sweet stuff every day.

Those milk and mango sticky rice things they sell in the food markets look amazing!

Thanks.

Maybe. come back when you have some money.

I know it;s expensive privately in UK and for the USA......

.......'It depends on the tooth, the dentist, the location, and on the complexity of the canal.

Front teeth usually have only one root so they cost less then back teeth that have 2 or 3 roots, average cost JUST of root canal, no crown, is $500 to $900' . (15,000 - 27,000 Baht). You can more than double that with a post and crown.

I have found Chiang Mai great for dentistry, find a dentist you like and stick with them. If you pay a little more, so what it's worth it, just cut out beers and birds for a week. biggrin.png

I used to use this guy in BKK. The best dentist I have ever been to. He is Indian Thai and speaks excellent English.

Excellent facilities and staff. They will pick you up from the airport or your hotel.

Great service....I had to get crowns done. I went in the morning for moulds and went back the same evening to have them fitted.

Check out the website. Gives prices for each type of work. If you compare to English dentists, what you save will pay for your holiday. www.drsunildental.com

I gotta hand it to you...you are the only person I have ever in my life heard of who is "looking forward to" more dental work, root canals, extractions, etc. Cheers!

I would like to recommend my dentist in Phnom Penh (I know, it's not CM or BKK) - best dentist I and other expats have ever known: Chou Nee Excel Dental Clinic, # 41 Eo - Sisowath St (pm me for directions).
