April 11, 201313 yr It crossed my mind today when seeing the traffic halted for a VIP that maybe a VIP carriage on the SKY would work so much better. It surely takes quite a lot of coordination to pull off stopping traffic at each intersection. If a carriage was used on the BTS or even the Subway it could run in-between normal trains.
April 11, 201313 yr No Thai VIP would ever be seen dead on the BTS .- Yes, the OP really has no clue. Take the older members, male or female, of the families that own 80% of the means of production in Thailand (probably still under a hundred of them), and I bet you wouldn't find more than a handful that would ever be caught dead on any kind of public transport, much less walking down the street more than 100m.
April 11, 201313 yr Agree with the above, your inconvenience has no effect on them. Why would they want to change a system in which all traffic is stopped so they can cruise right through.
April 11, 201313 yr I'm sure many of you have noticed that no one (person or dogs, cats etc) is allowed on the overpasses either while they're holding up the traffic. Does anyone know if they hold the BTS when the convoy is going to pass underneath?
April 11, 201313 yr If you go to the capital city in any country, you're likely to be inconvenienced as they squire around diplomats, government officials and honored guests that can benefit the country (or just its politicians). It certainly wouldn't be in the best interest of a nation to have a visiting ambassador's car pelted by a rotten egg, a big green lugie (or hand grenade) from an overpass. The OP's VIP BTS car has many precedents (albeit a little stretched) in personal railroad coaches of political leaders all over the world. Not as prevalent today with jets supplanting rail travel. But a nicely done up railroad car can be the envy of even the wealthiest. Imagine traveling with a whole train at your disposal, with offices, dining cars, and a bedroom- unimpeded by normal trains and their schedules. Harkens back to a more genteel time. April 11, 201313 yr We chartered a tram once. It was quite entertaining, what with the drink and all, and we could pick up guests along the route

Does anyone know if they hold the BTS when the convoy is going to pass underneath? it has to do with the royal status. nobody is allowed to stand higher or above them. when there is a royal barge procession or the king travels by boat the bridges across the river are closed for any traffic. not sure about the bts. but i guess yes. the trains will also have to stop. if there is any other kind of royal procession on the street with the kings participation, like the parades on his birthday you will also see no Thai looking out of it on windows higher than street level.
April 11, 201313 yr Yes of course I know all that, my question was has anyone here ever actually seen the BTS system brought to a halt for that reason? just curious. . .
April 11, 201313 yr Yes of course I know all that, my question was has anyone here ever actually seen the BTS system brought to a halt for that reason? just curious. . . in case the vip is a royal i would say yes. look how perfectly planned, timed and well coordinated it is to give a free route to the vip. haven't seen it myself. but it is also probably hard to notice and to know the reason why there is a short halt of the BTS when you are in a BTS. if you in a car and stuck in traffic like all the time you would have to be directly at the crossroad to notice there is a vip coming trough.
