When Can Visa Be Extended? Day Of Expiry Or Does It Matter?

Featured Replies

Hello old chaps,

I'm sure this has been asked before so apologies in advance.

Got a 60 days tourist visa which expires in 3 weeks time. Can I go to extend this visa on the very day of expiration or should I do this day before or even a few days before?

If memory serves me correct, I once got a one month visa extended for a week just a few days into entering the country so I'm guessing the authorities extend it from the point the visa ends and not at the point you go and visit them.

Cheers.

You should go a week or two early, you never know what might happen if you wait to the last minute (e.g. you might get sick). The extension starts at the end of the current permission to stay, so you lose nothing by going early.

The expiration date of the visa visa is immaterial. What matters is the expiration of your permission to stay, in your case the "until" date in your arrival stamp. You can apply for your 30-day extension of stay any time during the last 30 days of your current permission to stay and the 30 days will be added to the end of your permission to stay, ie you will lose nothing by applying early, as Sophon already mentioned.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
