Swede Bakken Geir, 53, wanted in a murder case in Norway, was arrested at his home in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district where he lived with his Thai wife, Immigration Commissioner Lt-General Suwat Thumrongsrisakul said. Geir arrived in Thailand in 2002 and ran a restaurant in Pattaya. His residence permit was revoked after it was confirmed that he was wanted in Norway and he will be deported soon, Suwat said. Suwat said the other foreigner was suspected cocaine dealer Afdul Dialo, 29, who was arrested in a sting operation in Bangkok's Wattana district following a tip-off. However, police found only one kilogram of baking soda in his possession. Dialo told police he had sold his stock of the drug to other customers and was trying to cheat a first-time customer. Thats what we call a Norwegian story. Norwegian prison is better then the hotels around kaosan road, lucky guy. He will most likely end up better then the swede that strangled the barlady in pattaya last year, he most likely getting the sign around his neck. The press releases for cases like this always try to imply that the Thai police busted the guy through tireless detective work and dedicated policing. That is never true. What is always true is that somebody grassed on the poor bugger and told the cops exactly where to find him and what he was wanted for. His 'Thai wife?' A pissed off business associate? A tourist from Norway who happened to recognize the guy? That's always the really interesting part of the story. Anybody know what happened here? I am sure the Thai police followed their equivalent of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, and no pressure was put on him and he had access to a lawyer etc. In the UK he would have sat their grinning away saying 'no comment' to everything asked of him, before walking free. One got rehab i heard and the other last was seen homeless by someone I know. The stuff is on a par with smack and worser than coke alone. My guess is that this guy was processing and was know to the police too. If thats the case he's pretty much on par with the murderer IMHO. alain Posted March 18, 2006 Share Posted March 18, 2006 I have a feeling that i met this man in Phuket some years ago. Anyway his name was also Geir and he was born in Sweden from Norwegian parents. The family moved back to Norway after just a few years. He had a Swedish passport but was speaking 100% norwegian.. He was also seen in pattaya recently. I remember him as a very nice man, sympatic with humor. Didn´t mind taking a drink or two...
