Brisbane - How Long From Airport To Thai Consulate?

Recommended Posts

The consulate in Brisbane is on 87 Annerley Road, does anyone know how long it would take to get there from the airport? By bus and taxi will be my options. Not sure how long it will take to get through customs, but my flight arrives at noon, and the consulate is open for applications until 15:30. I have been told that a visa can be issued in one hour, so I would need to arrive by 14:00 I would guess...

Brisbane normally doesn't take too long to clear through Imm and Customs. Taxis readily available outside. About thirty minutes to forty minutes to the Consulate.

If your flight is on time I suspect you'd be there by 1:30 or so.

I received back a reply, thought that was going to take a few days, yes i will have to check which time is the correct one:

  • As long as you arrive by mid morning with support documents for the visa you will get your visa wihin an hour or so. Your support documentation should include a letter of request for your visa from your company together with a a photocopy of of the company's business registration.

The TG flight only arrives (noon) and departs (14:00) one time/day. I will tell the consulate my situation, if I can get to the consulate by 13:30-14:00, I can get the 14:00 flight the next day, and actually, I could be there 9:30 in the morning, and still make the 14:00 flight anyways. That is probably the better option because a taxi ride could run quite a bit for a 30min trip?

Some cheap digs for a night is next on the list...

Thanks.

If you decide on doing the visa next morning, don't bother with the cost of a taxi from the airport. Go out the front of arrivals, walk across the breezeway and take the monorail AirTrain to the city (Roma St Station) ($15 or so I think). The station's complex is right in the city and includes a Holiday Inn . A taxi from there to the Consulate the next morning is a relatively short trip and would take fifteen minutes at most.

Thanks for those replys. Yes I think I will just be there at 9:30 the next morning, but will try to work out the public transport which cant be that difficult so long as there is a route past the consulate. After I have the visa about 10:30, then maybe a taxi back to the closest monorail, then hop it to the airport. But I guess I would have to call a cab from the consulate, or just get a bus back to the monorail? No idea about distances there.

Do you know how much the holiday runs/night? Any recommendations on what to do/see while there? Thanks again.

But here is says (para 7)

Personal visa applications can be made at the Consulate between 0930 and 1530 hours daily Monday to Friday (Thai and Australian public holiday Excepted). Cash payment is preferable in office.

Website for consulate shows opening hours to be 9:30 to 2:30. http://www.thaiconsulate.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=90&Itemid=109

ah ... here's the rub.

I got my tourist Visa from them back in November last year and when I arrived at the gate I noticed that their opening hours (posted on their arrival gate) were different (shorter) then what was displayed on their website.

When I bought this small, but important fact to their attention ... well, I got the response ... 'but it states clearly on the gate what our new opening hours are'. Having being to Thailand many times, I knew better, I stopped, smiled, complimented them on some small detail, and promptly closed my mouth ... a little bit of Thailand in every country ... tongue.png

I'm relatively local (same state), so I'll call them this later this morning and confirm their opening hours for you.

Cheers

So which is correct.

OPENING HOURS:

9.30 AM - 2.30 PM

Monday to Friday

You have to love the relaxed attitude that Thais have.

Just got off the blower (phone) from the embassy and neither times are correct.

Opening at 9.30am ... but they close at 2pm!

If you are going for a same day Visa, best that you are there before 11am.

.

This will amuse lopburi3 ... I asked also about getting non O Visa even though I am not married to a Thai (apparently you have to be married to a Thai to qualify).

Non O Visa, not married to a Thai ... should be no problems she replied ... I'll follow this up later and confirm ... ermm.gif

Thanks for the advice Fdog and David 48! Much appreciated. As for digs, since it is for just one night, I may just go for a backpacker deal, how are these for location?

For backpacker. Get off the train at Roma St, walk straight out the door and straight across the road. Big backpacker hotel. Can't miss it.

Though backpacker hotels in Bris sometimes aren't as cheap as you think. smile.png

So I would suggest either the holiday inn at the station, Abbey Apartments across the road or next door to Abbey is a backpackers.

You won't find anything much cheaper around and the location is at the station for easy transport to and from the airport.

Just in case you can't find the Holiday Inn, search for the Traders Hotel... Changed over about December last year...

I'd stay on the Southbank side, the airport link train stops at Southbank and from there you can change trains for a train to "Park Road" from Park Road it's probably about 15mins walk to the Consulate... Or walking from Southbank about 30mins...

There's also a bit more liveliness in Southbank than the main CBD area, unless you enjoy a punt then there's always the Casino but it's generally a 10mins walk from Southbank across the bridge and into the CBD...

Thanks for those suggestions, i wont be using the casino, but good to hear there is a train that will take me close to the consulate. Backpackers on agoda at discounted rates are about 21-$27., single rooms I saw for $55. (for basically a closet and a cot), might do that as I cant imagine being in a room with other people, will be bagged that first day too...how is the weather mid-may?

When I send a note to the consulate to check the date I will come in for the visa, I was going to ask if I could scan in the docs I will get from Sunbelt, and perhaps my application form, just to speed things up a when I actually arrive. They seem small enough to manage that, or do you think dont bother?

You'll be out the front of the airport within an hour of landing (at the very most). would take bout 40 mins from there via taxi to the embassy.

There's a perfectly good train service (Gold Coast Line) running from both airports, and you'd be at the South Brisbane station in about 25 minutes; heaps cheaper than a taxi, and a pleasant 10 minute walk down the hill to the consulate.

but if time is of the essence, then taxi it is, but hopefully no traffic jams.

Cafes and coffee shops nearby while you wait!

ps. don't bring into Australia any fruit or food so you will have no need to clear Quarantine. This always delays my clearance.

Green, Out curiosity, what visa are traveling all the way to Aus for, was no where closer to Thailand an option ?

Not sure of your finacial situation (given you are looking to stay in a back papers I assume pretty tight) but whilst you have taken the effort to travel there why not hang around for a few days and have a look round ?

Never managed anything better than a 3-day turnaround from the Annerley Consulate - put the form in Monday and pick up my passport on Wednesday - but that's no biggie when you live a few km away in West End. They never hassled me, but I did see the Thai staff member at the counter give some poor sod a hard time re his application. Even though its reportedly headed by an Aussie, I think it's wise to adopt the 'TiT' attitude espoused earlier in this thread - smile, nod and try not to look like a man in a desperate hurry to get to the airport ;)

My multi entry non b I got from there in 2006 was issued same day.

My non-B was issued after I'd gone and had a coffee and sandwich nearby. About 90 minutes!

Was told to have a coffee and come back in 1 hour. 35 minutes later I returned and was already available. This was 2011. Maybe MR WORLDWIDE was not very aggreeable with what he was told by the staff.
