Accident Grandmother Killed, 7 Hurt in Pickup-Songthaew Crash
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 78-year-old woman was killed and seven others injured after a pickup truck crashed into the rear of a parked songthaew, on the Nakhon Phanom–Na Kae Road on the morning of 2 August. The incident occurred near Ban Don Daeng, in Kham Toei subdistrict, Mueang District. Police, medics from Nakhon Phanom Hospital and multiple rescue units responded to the scene on Highway 2033. Emergency services arrived to find a yellow songthaew, operated by the Nakhon Phanom Transport Cooperative, with extensive damage to its rear and right-hand side. The vehicle had reportedly stopped on the roadside to pick up passengers when the collision happened. Debris and personal belongings were strewn across the road. Lying at the rear of the vehicle was the body of Ms. Ban aged 78, who had been a passenger. She was thrown from the vehicle upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene. Four other passengers, three women and one man, sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital. Nearby, a Toyota Vigo pickup truck bearing Nakhon Phanom registration plates was found with front-end damage. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Mrs. Chanakan, had been taking her two sons to tutoring classes in the city. All three suffered injuries and were also transported to Nakhon Phanom Hospital for treatment. Initial investigations suggest the songthaew had slowed or stopped on the shoulder of the road to pick up passengers. The pickup truck, which was travelling behind, may have been speeding and failed to notice the parked vehicle in time, leading to the high-impact crash. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being reviewed as part of the probe. The body of the deceased has been released to her family for religious rites. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-08-03 -

Travel Suvarnabhumi Ranked Among World’s Best for Air Connectivity
Picture courtesy of Koaded. Suvarnabhumi Airport has been ranked among the top 10 airports in the world for air connectivity in 2024, according to a report released by the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific and Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) in collaboration with global consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Thailand’s main international gateway secured 7th place in the “Top 10 Hub Airports with Connectivity Leadership” and 9th place in the “Top 10 Airports in Air Connectivity” for 2024. The rankings were based on a variety of criteria, including network scale and frequency, the economic importance of destinations served and the quality and efficiency of passenger connections. These factors help determine how well airports facilitate both domestic and international travel, as well as their strategic importance in the global aviation network. The Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), which operates Suvarnabhumi, hailed the recognition as a reflection of the airport’s growing role as a vital regional transport hub and a gateway to ASEAN. “The achievement highlights Suvarnabhumi Airport’s strategic position in the Asia-Pacific region and its role in connecting passengers across continents,” an AOT spokesperson said on 1 August. Suvarnabhumi recently expanded its infrastructure, with the opening of the SAT-1 terminal, further enhancing its operational capacity. The improvements aim to accommodate growing passenger volumes and to improve service quality. AOT reaffirmed its commitment to continuous development and innovation to meet global standards, enhance passenger experience and strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness in both the aviation and tourism sectors.
