A foreigner friend brought up a strange and amazing topic of discussion today.

He said "Ask your Thai friend how many weeks there are in a year?"

I did ask a Thai friend, that exact question, and I was duly astounded by the answer.

Just for fun, ask your Thai friend/partner that same question.

Ok I took the bait and asked the question. The answer is 48. The reasoning - 4 weeks per month and 12 months per year. I mentioned that there might be 52 weeks in a year and my maths was severely questioned. "Four times twelve is definitely fourty-eight". Go figure!

Using the calculator she's determined it's 48. There is no disputing this ... the calculator can't be wrong.

I asked another 3 Thai girls and 2 Thai guys the question tonight. Use of iphone calculators etc was prevalent. The uniform answer was 48. Told them all they were wrong and the correct answer was 52. I'm the crazy Farang that can't count apparently!

Then ask them how many days in a year and divide by 7. Even their calculators might get that one right

And the answer is ... more than 52 !

Oh that's handy to know...

I may up my cleaners salary.. from 2000 baht a week to 8200 baht a month
