I had a male cat, 8 months old now and intend to neuter it. any recommendation of vets hospital, preferably somewhere around or not too far away from the moat?

this is my first feline, so im quite clueless. would be nice to meet a knowledgeable, animal loving vet. i had read up on the catforum regarding vaccine, would be nice if the vet wouldnt be too pushy about multiple shots of vaccine as i would prefer to keep it minimize as its a strictly indoor housecat

Castrating a male cat isn't such a big procedure, any vet should be able to do that.
Not sure about vets around the moat, but the Small Animal Hospital and Ban Mha ka Meaw are good options.

As for vaccines, it's up to you how often you want your cat vaccinated. Many if not most vets just LOVE to over-vaccinate and use multiple vaccines. Just devastating to the animals immune system. Especially in dogs I've seen already quite some serious damage done (including fatal ones) due to that. So, if you don't like to follow their protocol, then don't do it. You can ask them if they have single vaccines, and if they have just go with that and with approximately 3 to 4 weeks in between each jab.

Also best not to have your cat vaccinated when there is *any* sign of illness, including during the castration and recovery from that.

FIV and Leukemia are rampant in outdoor cats, but as yours will be strictly inside, one wonders if vaccinating against these diseases are necessary.

Consider if you're planning to bring your cat to other countries. We bought our cat in Thailand, where she was cared for by the vets on Mahidol Rd. with yearly checkups and vaccinations. When we wanted to bring her to Japan, we needed a few other vaccinations as well as microchip implantation and blood testing. Now, after three years in Japan (and regular yearly vet care) we're getting ready to bring her back to Chiang Mai and that requires still OTHER vaccinations! Nothing really out of the ordinary, but what is required in one country may not be required in another, and vice versa.

You want to go to a vet that will take good care of your cat after vaccination. This means keeping it warm while it's still under the influence of the general anesthetic. And keeps it under observation until it returns to consciousness. For our first cat we went to a vet who just gave us back our cat who was still unconscious and stayed that way for several hours, Probably he was over-anesthetized. Now we go to Dr. Nook. She charges more, but she takes proper care of the animals in her charge. My phone recently expired and took with it most of my phone numbers including hers. Here's the GPS for Dr Nook's offices: 18.777982,98.9985

Dr. Nook is highly recommended. These are the last numbers that we have: 053 818905 or 01 8835430

One warning, if you bring your cat home after the operation when it is still unconscious it will freak out and try to run away when it wakes up no matter how tame it normally is - at least that is my experience. You need to keep it somewhere that it is impossible to get away until it is fully awake and functional..

I can highly recommend: House of Dogs and Cats (Baan Mha Ka Maew Animal Hospital) Vet just before the corner of Chiang Mai Land road on the superhighway is a great veterinary place. They do shots, animal care, washing, etc. Speak English. 255/10-12 Mahidol Rd. Padaed, Muang, CM 053-205-155 open daily 9-8 (Sunday 9-6) Not, not recommend Nimmanhaemin Soi 5 or 7.

YES!!! That's the name of the vet clinic that took such great care of our cat over the years!! And it's the place we'll be using when we get back in a few weeks!
