I give them slim to no chance of stopping anyone / group who wanted to wreak havoc, and slim just left the building

Popular Post arthurboy
While applauding the authorities concerns over security in general and especially with regard to terrorist activities, I can't but help wonder why the Thai police and this article are so intent on trumpeting what should after all be standard practice in these matters. Security of any type should be a given and not something to crow about or dramatize vis a vis, 'a war room has been set up to monitor all situations, under collaboration with the Special Branch Police and the Immigration Bureau to liaise with the US Embassy in Bangkok.' And as posters have already commented, what about the ongoing situation in the South? Bombing and killings on an almost daily basis continue to wreak death, carnage and misery on so many people simply going about their daily lives. Before making such soap opera statements as noted above, perhaps the chief of police might like to deploy his highly talented war room team to provide some useful intelligence in the southern provinces to stop the ongoing slaughter.

Its no longer news worthy. Why step up security? Sounds like media waffle to me. No disrespect to those affected by the tragedy in Boston but it was in the US so the media reacted accordingly. I gave up on the BBC for several hours because with no hard facts they repeated the same items over and over, interviewed the same " experts " who had as much knowledge as to what happened as I did and generally kicked the story into the ground. Their " breaking news " remained the same for hours. How many times do they cover death in the South ?

h90
??????? An obvious inside job to either start a new war in middle east or to put the blame on people with guns and change the laws inside USA....So no connection with Thailand. On the other hand bombs like that explode almost daily in the south, which should be a reason for the royal thai police to wake up.

If people with convictions have entered the country did they mastermind Boston from a bar in Pattaya ? The point about knowing who has convictions is well made as an old friend of mine comes to Thailand regularly and one of his previous convictions involving drugs would almost certainly bar him but he has never been refused a visa or an extension. Do the morons who make these ridiculous public statements actually believe them themselves ?

Agreed, the headline grab is completely unwound by the article itself by the head police guy instructing his officers at soft/high density targets to carry on as normal. I especially like the airport security article / post, which meanders along, wrapping up with a valuable stock market prediction. This newspaper should go purely digital as wasting trees or even recycled paper product, is a travesty.
aguy30
"Royal Thai Police on high alert after Boston attacks" "Pol. Gen. That has been proven with the effectiveness of their actions in the south. Seriously do they think an attack in Boston would have an effect on Thailand? That is about as likely as the bombing in the south caused the attack on Boston marathon. There is one thought that comes to mind as I read this article: It is better be thought an idiot, than to remove all doubt!
NongKhaiKid
The midday news on IN Channel had a long opening segment on the Boston incident including a press conference by the Thai transport Minister to assure he was closely monitoring the situation including how all major airports were ready to handle any emergency. Emergency, what emergency the bombs were set at the end of a marathon and the only transport used was shanks' pony ? Why is the Thai government getting so worked up other than to seize every opportunity to sound off in public without realising what dicks they make of themselves

Mosha
Rather ironic that Irish Immigrants in Boston contributed greatly to the IRA Bombers. You can bet not one of the contributors got hurt though. Like you all say Thai Bullshit again. What have Irish immigrants and the IRA got to do with this incident. Why the dig at the Irish? A lot of the IRA's contributions came from that area, do keep up.
