Kanchanaburi police toughens ban on alcohol

KANCHANABURI, 17 April 2013 (NNT) - Kanchanaburi police has toughened the ban on alcohol today as mass water fights are held in all districts of the province.

Local police are patrolling areas for street brawls and gun attacks on April 17 which is the only day of grand Songkran celebrations in the central province.

Police units are joining forces with civil defence volunteers and village headmen in setting checkpoints across the municipality.

Police vowed to arrest and fine members of the public who consume or distribute alcoholic drinks on site. Revelers are expected to crowd the streets from 1PM onwards.

During the Songkran period, the province tied with Prachuap Khiri Khan in seeing the highest death toll, mostly from road accidents.
