Moving past the discussion/arguments, do any of the TV gold bugs/experts think that gold will be breaking 18,950 in the next week or two? I don't really understand the technical indicators of gold. I may buy some if it drops below that price just to have some in my portfolio. Thanks.

My system is; if I buy it immediately drops 2000 baht. I bought at 21 and it immediately dropped to 19. For a price I will let you know when I am buying again.smile.png

Anyone buying gold as an "investment" even long-term, much less speculating on the short-term swings may as well be gambling at the casino.

It's only sensible as a hedge against the possibility (probability IMO) of the major government-fiat currencies continuing to decline in value. And in extreme scenarios holding the physical metal yourself's the only safe option. Against the real doomsday scenarios that really favor holding physical gold, you'll also need secure shelter, weapons, food and drug stockpiles the whole shebang.

For those not concerned about that worst case, but still worried about the future of the dollar/pound/Euro you could also invest in dividend-or-interest bearing investments denominated in better currencies like Australia, Canada, Norway and Singapore for the same reason, most likely get a better overall yield long-term with similar protection against the facts that evil idiots are running the major currencies and international banking systems.

@eesat

Nobody pays spot for gold unless it's a paper trade.

That is not gold, it's paper. That's what you do.

Bully for you.

Look at the title of this thread.

Everybody pays spot PLUS a premium for physical gold.

That is gold.

I keep it as a portable storage of wealth.

I do not need to "trade" Nor is that my aim. Nor do I wish to trade.

It was you, for the sake of pushing people around on this thread who suggested I was a trader.

I never said I was but you needed to make that claim.

You should take courses in reading for meaning.

You? Understand a simple English sentence ?

Fuggeddaboudit.

But surely spot plus a premium is spot plus the broker/dealers commission,no?All currency pairs have a bid and ask and the quoted exchange rate is the median,it's not what rate the bank will give you because guess why?........they charge you a premium for conversion!

you've tied yourself in knots on this thread but tthis is the truth. There are many people here who really are old hands in Thailand, even people giving you advice like go to Makkasan gold market instead of your beloved Yaowarat and you may find the physical gold that you so avidly seek!

You're just more focused on being the little fat kid in the horror film who shouts louder than everyone else to prove he's right and we all know what happens to him!

That's all I ever said here eesat

You initially claimed to be trading gold *bullion* for *spot.*

That is simply not possible.

You then changed your story about six times.

You rephrased what I said about as many times.

And your positioning me alongside drunkards and idiots, (most of whom haven't been here as long as I)

adds nothing to your credibility.

You are an incomplete showboating fool, the likes of whom I have been taking great pains to avoid for most of the twenty years I have had the pleasure of working here.

Now sing yourself to sleep.

Ah,the inevitable back-tracking has begun now,I wondered when it would come!rolleyes.gif

Well you've certainly galvanised the Thai Visa forum, something I thought I'd never see as it seems that just about everyone,of every creed.colour race and nationality thinks you're a total and utter fool!

Even down to ridiculously claiming that Jibber-Jabber is an old Victorian turn of phrase, the only time I've ever heard it used is by Mr T on the Snickers advert and I'm from the UK!cheesy.gif

You've certainly proved to be worth the price of entry and amused everyone on here no end,I would love to say I salute you but in your own words...

Fuggeddaboudit!!!

The term 'gibberish' means words that can't be understood. As with so many terms we use unawares today, this one has its roots in racism. Back in Europe, any foreigner with dark hair and olive skin was assumed to be from Egypt and were called, "Gypts."

Later the word became "Gypsies". Because their accents were hard to understand, the words they spoke were termed "gibberish". This has mutated through time to also include "Jibber and "Jabber".

------------------

Jibber-jabber is a coupling of "jibber" and "jabber", which are themselves variants of the same onomatopoeic verb meaning "To speak rapidly and inarticulately; to chatter, talk nonsense". "Jibber" (spelt "gibber") was used by Shakespeare; "jabber" is recorded in 1499. (There are a number of similar words in English all meanig much the same thing - e.g. gabble, yabber, gab, jabble.) The earliest sighting of "jibber-jabber" recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary is in 1922, but that doesn't mean that was "the year it first appeared". Given English-speakers' love of reduplicated words (e.g. helter-skelter, hanky-panky, roly-poly, willy-nilly, hocus-pocus), coupling "jibber" and "jabber" would have been a natural formation at any time in the last 400 years, and it may have been commonplace for many years before it finally appeared in print. (VSD)

-----------------

The OED is rather out of date on that one. Jibber-jabber appeared in Abel Boyer's 1751 English/French Dictionary - defined as 'to speak gibberish'.
