Liverpool F.c.

Various UK Sunday papers linking Liverpool with the following 3 players:

Pope. Best goalie this season in the Prem?

Shaquiri. This one won't go away (maybe him expressing a preference). Has a £12M buyout clause in his contract.

Goetze. Managed by Klopp at Dortmund. Still only 26.

What happened with the deal for the Lyon lad?

Liverpool wanted to renegotiate the price after his medical results. Allegedly.

I have no idea what the medical issue is.

Unlikely that will be released.

Interesting.

MRI showed knee problems. Had three associated issues of varying degrees over the past couple of years. Differing stories as to what happened over the price once the weakness was found during the medical. {a)... LFC reduced the offer following the results of medical and Lyon said bugger off.and (B)...LFC turned down the deal and Lyon offered to reduce fee but LFC said no.

Shame for Fekir as he'd already done the photoshoot in the kit, picked out his number etc

Or maybe not.

When Shanks was Liverpool boss Frank Worthington failed a medical and instead of joining Liverpool from Hudderdfield he went to Leicester, then Bolton, Birmingham, Sunderland, Leeds, Southampton, Brighton,  USA, Sweden etc, etc, etc, etc,  finishing his career at age 40.

Liverpool fans were deprived of his football talents, the ladies of Liverpool his other talents, though I imagine he saw to a few when he was manager at Tranmere.

While we're pottering around, why not bring along Shaqiri for the ride as well?

Watching his post-game reaction when the Potters lost against Palace and were going down... he knew he was too good not to be back in the top flight.

But with Barcelona entering the bidding, unlike Raheem Sterling, he's a quality knob.

His agent would like a bidding war. Chucking in the name Barcelona is part of that process. I don't see him going there, but you never can tell.

Did Countinho and Suarez  have  release clause's ?

Coutinho didn't have one and we got the money we wanted for him.

Suarez did have one and Barcelona got him for a bargain.

Hence the the value in not having a release clause, good examples provided there Alfie.

Wasn't Suarez's release clause £40M? Arsenal famously bid £1 over that for him. I thought Barca paid about £75M for Suarez; not bad for someone with his diciplinary record at the time.

Liverpool tried to put it at 100M  but settled on 70M I believe.

And yes, prior to that, Arsenal did put that bid in and in response Liverpool gave him a new deal and honored his exit the following season.

Ha ha ha, but Suarez release cause was for 40m and you got 65m so the release clause didn't affect the price , get it right Bobby !!!!!

"Luis Suarez is the top scorer in the English Premier League, which is arguably the top soccer league in the world," Henry is reported to have said. "He had a buyout clause of £40m. Arsenal, one of our prime rivals, offered £40m plus £1. What we've found … is that contracts don't seem to mean a lot in England – actually, in world football.

Yes he had a release clause for 40M but he signed a new agreement with a new release clause that same summer.

Barcelona claimed they paid 65M, as the buying club often does. Liverpool say 75M as the selling club often does.

I agree contracts don't mean a lot, however they still affect a player's value, as do terms.
