Studying Thai: Kindle Vs. Ipad2

Featured Replies

I have a Kindle Fire. I can read Thai text and insert notes into the text, but I can't type Thai on the Kindle. So, I can't really use an online Thai dictionary to look up words.

I have an iPad2. I can read Thai text and use a Thai onscreen keyboard. I've tried using CloudOn as well as the Kindle reading app to do my Thai lessons, but both have shortfalls.

In a perfect world, I'd be able to use one of these two devices to:

download Thai text from a site like ---.thairecordings.com, then insert (as notes) meaning to new vocabulary.

I'd like to think this is doable.......but I'm not able to figure out how to do it. Can anyone help?

You have discovered that computers without keyboards are pretty much useless.

I stayed up until the middle of the night....determined to figure out a fix:

Add Kindle app to the iPad (free). Add Longdo dictionary app to iPad (free).

Problem solved. I can now mark up my Thai lessons with notes (just a small blue symbol shows where I enter a note). In the note, I can add the meaning from the Longdo dictionary.

I used to think computers without keyboards were worthless too....but after using the iPad for a few months, I've a different opinion. My desktop still gets a lot of use, but the iPad is extremely versatile and a real boost for my Thai studies.

Better than the dictionary above is the CM Thai Dictionary Lite......it's a free app for ipad and it works off-line.....as does the kindle app for ipad.

The pair make it easy to do my Thai homework assignments, whether on or off line.
