Is it worth spending the night in Cambodia in order to see or do something interesting? I won't part with my money in a casino, but does Poipet have anything else to offer?

Yes. The road to Thailand.

The best thing to do in Poipet is to leave as soon as possible.

There is nothing special that you cant get in Thailand. If you really want to spend a night in Cambo, its better to go to Sisophon. But to be honest theres not a lot there either.

When you're in Poipet you're only 3 hours by taxi from Siem Reap and the world famous Angkor Wat temples. A really good time to go is now, as when it rains the road deteriorates badly. If you can spare 2 or 3 days then l'd highly recommend a visit there. At least you'll get some value for your Cambodian visa.

Step by step information on how to do it by yourself can be found at www.talesofasia.com

If you want to overnight in Cambo while renewing your visa, it is better to do a private run to Koh Kong, via Trat. Of course, this depends on your location - from South of Bangkok it is easy - bus to Trat - minibus to border - cross over - get a moto-ride over the new bridge - book into Rasmey Makara and head for the chicken farm beyond RM.

Then return next day to the border (early!) and reverse the trip.

Then consult your local quack when you get home!

But Poi Pet - nothing - nada - nix - nowt - not a sausage

Thanks a lot. Looks like I'll have to pay a couple of hundred baht extra and leave pronto. Wish I had the time to explore Angkor, and thanks for the info on that subject.

After you next medical checkup you may also loose your Thai visa

as HIV is on the list of diseases that immigration does not like.

You swing both ways I see, with chickens and sausages??

The Lonely Planet guidebook says something along the lines of 'if Cambodia has an armpit, Poipet is it'

Make of that what you will.
