gl555
I've dealt with enough absolute <deleted> in that wretched swamp that I might just find such a $4 provocation excuse enough to thrash one of them. Suggesting Singaporeans are like sheep is a insult to all ovines everywhere. Useless tossers Ooo I sense bitterness here!
Travel2003
Lucky he didn't pull that stunt in Thailand, especially Phuket or Pattaya, the cabbies would have all banded together and whipped his butt good and proper, cheap foreigners, drunk and disorderly. Good on the judge for being on the side of the hardworking ordinary dude. Obviously drunk and stupid with it, an action he will fortunately live to regret. Here we go, the taxi Mafia again. Will you stop it with the taxi mafia rubbish, and concentrate about what happened in ..................wait for it................................................................in Singapore. People, it was in Singapore. Different country. True story. Edited May 1, 2013 by Travel2003
mancub
My guess is that he was still up-tight at being "exploited " previously ....probably by a Ladyboy in Orchard Towers.
barefoot1988
No dispute the Norwegian is an idiot, however in his defence, i have not seen mentioned anywhere that cabby informed him and showed him some legal document of a surcharge From memory, there is a sticker/notice in the cab. Can not debate it, because i do not know. But if true, why would his lawyer use defence that he did not know about the surcharge.? Only makes me think there is no sticker. NO doubt all Singaporeans know this, but tourist may not. Not defending the idiot, as i said he was an idiot, just pointing out that he really may not have been aware and really believed it was a scam all singapore taxis have a sticker up displaying all surcharges, and price per distance. regardless a scam or not, it is not right to assault anyone. RefinedGentleman
You would think he would find it a bargain considering the cost of taking a taxi in his home country. Norway is the ultimate ripoff destination, followed closely by Sweden.

richard_smith237
I had a very similar disagreement and much in a similar manner thought I was being taken advantage of. I was drunk, new in Singapore and didn't read the midnight surcharge. At my destination I called the security guard across to help out with the situation.... I was then shown the document stuck to the back of the front seat outlining the charges..... My Mistake.. Apologies and a Tip.. Issue solved. Why this guy acted like such a thug is beyond comprehension. Yes, alcohol was involved, but to act like this he must be quite the idiot already.
Crossy
As well as the sticker all(?) Singapore taxis have a meter which adds and details the various surcharges (airport, late etc) and displays the total fare due, and they're on the receipt if you ask for one.
