60 Day Extenstion: When To Apply?

Featured Replies

I am a Canadian citizen currently in Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa. My current 60 day tourist visa ends May 10, and I am eligible for a 30 day extension. My question is,

"Does the extension begin the day it is granted, or on the day my 60 day tourist visa ends? In other words, if I go in tomorrow for the extension, will the 30 day extension begin tomorrow, it will it be from May 10?

It will start at end of current permitted to stay so nothing lost in doing early and that should be the plan to prevent any last minute issues.

Thank you, this is good to learn :)

One incorrect post removed - 30 day extension starts at end of current permitted to stay date as stated in post 2

Always the variations...........

I sent a friend down to Jomtien about two weeks before expiry as he was planning to go travelling around Isaan.

I felt a bit stupid when he returned two hours later with no extension, having been told he was not allowed to apply until 5 days before expiry.

Who knows, maybe they were busy that day and thinning the queue out.

Indeed believe most locations are happy to do earlier - and that location is known for allowing up to 2 months early on one year extensions when most will not allow more than 30 days.

We digress, but I have been told categorically in the past 6 months at Jomtien (including by Barry Kenyon) that I cannot apply for an Extension (Retirement) more than one month before expiry, unless I can provide an airline booking showing that I will be out of the Kingdom then.

Maybe they make this stuff up just for me tongue.png but that is in line with what you're saying other offices do.

Don't want to create a new thread coz name of this one fits pretty well.

My laos visa expires tomorrow on 5th of may and i'm wondering if i can go to chaengwattana tomorrow (are they working on sundays) to extend it? I mean i read different opinions on working hours and i didn't go today coz it is marked red on official website.

Immigration is never open on Saturday or Sunday and Monday is a holiday so Tuesday is when you must go if you actually have a Thai visa entry that can be extended (you said Laos visa). If you go first workday after weekend/holidays you can do without overstay. But you should have done early as extensions start at end of current permitted to stay time.
