Internet Provider - If That's The Right Term

Featured Replies

Last few years I've had 3BB as my internet service provider. Used to be in Sansa but I'm now moving to Watgate - between Flora condos and Prince Royal School. Could there be good reason to consider changing to a new company, providing better internet service in central Chiangmai?

Edited by triffid

I'm near North Gate and 3BB has been the best for me in this area.

What about True? 3BB charges me 900-odd a month for a purported speed 14mgb, whereas I recently saw a poster/ad offering 14mb for 600-odd. Is everyone in town who is happy with their internet provider a 3BB subscriber?

For a couple months I was paying 900 baht a month for 3BB's 14mgb until I learned that the maximum that the line in the street supported was limited to 10mgb. Why 3BB never told me this to begin with is one of those Thai mysteries. I reverted to the 10mgb for 600 baht; same performance for a 300 baht savings.

How did you learn what you did? Is there a specific, reliable way to get such information?

When mine was installed, I ran a test on speedtest.net to check I was getting the speed I was paying for. I wasn't, so the guy needed to call the office to have it upgraded.

I've had 3bb at two locations in CM and found it generally reliable. Had TOT at one - wouldn't use again.

Well where I live 3BB has been so so Narwhat bridge area.

Lately it has been better except for the last two weekends It has been slower than the pony express.

1) Would I be right in saying that competition, the market, etc has ensured that the all the companies offer the same (claimed) speeds for a given advertised price?

2) Does the same apply to other relevant factors, such as numbers sharing the line

3) Which are the competing companies nowadays offering internet service in central Chiangmai? (So far just 3bb and TOT have been mentioned.

Actually it came out in conversation with the 3BB technician who came to my house for repairs.

I decided in the end to install TrueMove's internet (15Mbs) and tv package 900bht and am glad of it now, if only because I'm getting the tv service thrown in. However my query here is about the speed. I've tried speedtest.net a number of times over the last few days and on different occasions the final download number has varied hugely, between 10 to 30, whereas the upload is quite constant at a little over 1. What to make of that download variation?

Can you give me more details on the package you arranged i.e where is it on the True website - couldn't find it myself but I'm interested in that arrangement.

Can't say about their website but I went along to their shop in Kad Suan Keaw and they had stacks of brochures listing the various packages. Picked the one I wanted and two days later their subcontractors came to my house to install.

Surely the 900 baht price you mention is for internet only.
