What is the use to convict someone for life if there are so many possibilities to avoid the life sentence. It starts already in court that if you confess most of the time the penalty will be reduced by 50%. Not a bit less for cooperation, but half the sentence. So with half the sentence they will get less because of age, good behavior, or health problems. And besides that they can apply for a (Royal) pardon. But why are they sentenced for life or death? The court has decided that there is danger for the society and they have to put away for life, but it seems to regret that decision. It should be rarely that pardons are being granted. And a pardon for death penalty to lifetime would be acceptable, but another problem is that there is no follow up once free. Yes they have to go to the rehabilitation center but nothing happens when they don't do. There should be a deep psychological treatment during and before people being freed too. We have seen not long ago how dangerous it can be when people come out. No pardons should be granted for only rare cases. Punishment is punishment, and if there are mistakes or doubts a new trial would be better
