Water summit in North
The Nation

CHIANG MAI: -- Thailand and neighbouring countries will benefit from a high-level meeting on water management to be held in Chiang Mai from May 14-20, Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi said yesterday.

Country leaders in the Asia-Pacific region are expected to attend the meeting to discuss water management, which has become a major issue of concern - not only in Asia - but across the globe.

Plodprasop said the first meeting on water management was held in Japan and Thailand was scheduled to host the second meeting in 2011, but it was cancelled due to massive flooding in the country.

He said 10 country leaders would address the meeting and share information on measures taken to tackle flooding in their countries and the region.

Plodprasop said PM Yingluck Shinawatra would take the stage first to talk about her experiences in dealing with the Thailand's massive 2011 floods and solutions arising from them.
