I lived in Thailand for more then a decade but moved to Laos, I have 3 medium sized dogs in Thailand and someone taking care of them. I wonder if it's possible to bring them to Laos (via Nong Kai) and what things to deal with, anyone who knows ?

There is a Laos minivan guy with a border pass who can easily pass the border, he does the paperwork etc. it's convenient because I did not have to leave the car. Used him once that time no official came to the van to check. But not sure perhaps sometimes they do and can have big problems then.

I think in the case of Laos you could get away with just "sneaking them in". Best to try crossing at a more remote border even though Nong Khai/Vientiane is busy and thus you could avoid detection even there, however, this is the one border crossing between the two countries where officials try to "look important" more than anywhere else. As a result there is a small chance of being caught. Although the other two friendship bridges might also be treated this way too so I'd choose to cross at say Tha Li in Loei province and you should have minimal hassle.

Make sure you park your car away from the immigration officers eyes, keep your dogs quiet and out of sight and try to rush through the paperwork to bring over your car - all of this shouldn't take more than 15 mins, both sides included. Once you are back in your car and a few hundred meters away from immigration no one will have any idea where you dogs came from - they'll assume you bought them in Laos.

I dont beleive it is that difficult even officially but you will need recent medical certificates from a Thai vet showing innoculations. As mentioned, low key unnoficial route may be best. Crossing from Muk/Suwan is possible on small ferries and I would think same would be available at other crossings. Hope all goes well and the dogs are happy there. Careful of loosing them to the restaurants and smugglers which is a real possibility I have witnessed.

Can't say re Laos but I do it all the time in between Thailand and Cambodia. Overland all that is needed is proof of rabies vaccination. I would be surprised if Laos was much different.
