Can someone confirm for me if you are making under 20 000 Baht a month in a Government school are you required to pay tax???

Is the school required to register the teacher even if you are not paying tax?

Thanks in advance

You have to be registered, or better said "legal." You usually do not pay tax making such an amount of money, but you do have to follow the same procedures, others have to go through making slightly more money. And you'll finally have a tax number and a card.

Go for the social insurance, gives you full coverage, school has to pay 600 and you'll have to pay 600 baht/month.

Letter to Krusapa ( Teachers' Council of Thailand), labor department, Immigration, the right type of visa etc.If you're not a native English speaker A TOEIC examination. Not really a lot of fun, but useful to be legal in Thailand.

Don't listen to those who're working on a tourist visa and telling you it's okay. Good luck.-wai2.gif

As an employee you must be registered in the tax-system and will receive a tax-id card. Every year, at the end of March you must file tax at the local Revenue Office. Whether you have to pay tax or not will depend on the salary and allowances. A copy of the tax clearance receipt and the PND91 tax form might be a requirement from the Labour Office and Immigration Office when applying for a renewal or extension of stay.

This is all correct. You employer needs to register you for income tax and social tax. There won't be any income tax to pay on Bt 240k a year. With basic allowances of Bt 90k you are just under the threshhold of Bt 150k a year. You need to file your PND 91 form with the RD before end March and present evidence of that to renew work permit.

For those who are working without the proper paperwork, is it advisable to file the required tax forms anyway?

To file tax you need a Tax Identification Number (TIN). When I applied for a TIN, the local Revenue Office needed to see the employment contract and work permit. However, such is not stated in the rules. http://www.rd.go.th/publish/21987.0.html

I do know a a situation where a teacher didn't have a work permit but did have a TIN and did pay tax.
