Southern teachers more confident of security plan.

NARATHIWAT, May 16 - All 379 schools in Narathiwat have fully started their new semester on Thursday amid tight security as teachers feel more confident of the security measures.

Joint security operations by police, military and local civil servants have been stepped up as security personnel have been sent to main roads and byway as well as to schools to ensure the safety of teachers and students.

Teacher Somjate Srihiran at Ban Lubo Lue Song school in Narathiwat's Su-ngai Kolok district said that the security operations help build confidence among teachers but he would like to see the tight security to continue for the whole school term just like the first day of the new. semester.

He said security personnel have been deployed to provide security along teachers' travel routes to ensure their safety.

Capt Somkiat Phonprayoon, commander of a special Chulabhorn Marine Naval Camp unit in Narathiwat said he has urged the teachers to strictly comply with instructions, to not travel alone or out of the route.

Meanwhile, National Security Council Secretary General Lt Gen Paradorn Pattanathabut said all agencies concerned have coordinated closely on security measures for teachers and students.

He said the meeting of agencies involved with the southern provinces problems at Government House, chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, would cover a wide range of issues including infrastructure development and education as well as problems related to the sources of financial support to the insurgency.

As for the violent incidents that seem to have intensified in the southern provinces, Gen Paradorn said he has coordinated with Malaysian government to ask the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) militant group but there was no reply.

He said communications may need time but that the authorities will closely follow up the issue. (MCOT online news).

Bus fair raised 1.5 baht after 11 pm

BANGKOK, 16 May 2013 (NNT) – Bad news for those who take buses after 11 pm, they will have to pay an additional 1.5 baht in fare, starting May 16th, 2013.

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority is raising fares for bus rides at all routes by 1 baht and 50 satang during 11pm to 5am. As a result, the red bus will today charge 8 baht, up from 6.5 baht per ride; whereas the white bus will charge 9 baht, up from 7.5 baht a ride. However, the rate for air-conditioned bus rides will remain the same. This will be effective from now until further notice.

Yingluck presents scholarships and village funds in Bueng Kan

BUENG KAN, 16 May 2013 (NNT) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra flew to Bueng Kan province to preside over the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of a government complex in this northeastern province.


Ms. Yingluck also chaired a Village Fund transferring ceremony in Muang district, where she pushed an electronic button for the purpose. The Prime Minister later made a tour of the exhibition on the village fund and presented 10 educational scholarships of 5,000 baht each to unfortunate students with good educational records.

The Prime Minister then continued her trip to Nong Khai where she handed down the government policy to the provincial governor and units chiefs. She also visited the Nong Khai immigration office before returning to Bangkok.

BMA to promote benefits of reading to the public

BANGKOK, 16 May 2013 (NNT)-The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will hold a seminar in July to encourage residents of Bangkok to read 10-15 books a year.


According to the BMA, Bangkok residents will be motivated to read more books through the seminar, which will be held in July, where representatives from organizations involved in the campaign will talk about reading benefits.

The BMA is hoping that the campaign would increase the number of books Bangkok people are reading on an average of 5 per person per year as indicated by the National Statistical Office, to around 10-15 books.

As the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has decided to give Bangkok the title of world book capital for 2013, a series of book reading events will be held throughout the year to stimulate the people of Bangkok to read more.

Phuket coral restoration begins as seawalking continues
