On my frequent trips to Pattaya, I have watched with interest the new route unfolding before me. Finally last time I saw vehicles using the new 331-Sri Racha dual carriage. This time I thought I would try it out. But from Sri Racha in. Oh dear. Oh Dear what a mistake. Coming up to the Sri Racha turn, with Rieths domain on your left side, there states a huge sign with an arrow, Route 331. Off you go. 3 km's later you pass under the bridge that the old road goes over, and then 3km's further you are ushered back out on to the route 7. No signs. No nothing. Oh not to worry I thought. I'll just pick up the Klaeng road from Chon Buri. Ha. Again. No such road out. Only in. On to the Motorway. OK I'll find the Chantaburi rd. Oh dear. Again no such road. Pay 30baht toll. Resign yourslf to the fact that now you must go through Chachansao. 1 km past the toll booth. Whats this? another road, going to Samut Something or other. Sounds familiar. Off we toddle. One and a half hours later, we find the 331. Never again. The original route for me in future

And I am very good at finding obscure routes.

Not surprise, some of the routes may lead you to nowhere. TIT :o

Oh gawd, that sounds like something I'd pull. Isn't there a MapQuest for Thailand?

I'm always worried we're gonna fly off the end of an unfinished expressway that someone forgot to block off. :o

That happens a lot in Thailand, especially around Issan, roads that just come to an end over the brow of a hill. They even take the trouble to paint the white and yellow lines right to the edge.

Re, end of motorway; I remember that happening at Neuaubing in Southern Germany back in the seventies. They completely forgot to put up the end of motorway signs on a new stretch, just had a bend at the end of it. With no speed retrictions, you can imagine how many smashes that caused before they realised their mistake.

Remember driving in the desert once (Qatar). Horsing along at 120 km/hr and saw a sign "end of paved road". Unfortunately it was position precisely at the end. Half a meter drop onto the desert left some very unusual bends in the bodyw*rk.

and stains in the jocks :o
