My guardian spirit will accept nothing but scotch whisky.

Because they are dead already so don't care about the sugar, colourings and chemicals

It's up to the particular spirit what they prefer - some do prefer khao lao or the green stuff.

As to why most prefer the red one, dunno, why don't you ask them?

Since when do ghosts drink it ? They just throw it away the next day when it's full with drowned ants and place a new one.

It's not a ghost, it is a lower angel, not normal to give red Fanta but it dose happen if you look closely at the photo you can see some small dancing dolls, the gifts are because people come and pray and ask for something, maybe find a husband, or get a government job, or travel to another country, the is seven coloured cloths is a gift also.

Talk to the people that take care of a particular spirit house and they'll tell you the details, if they can see you're sincerely respectful and curious, not just trying to make fun of them.

Are you trying to say that every spirit house has something to do with that particular idol?

The topic here is just the normal bog-standard spirit houses you see all over Thailand. The Kuman Thong phenomenon is much rarer and limited to particular subgroups.

So in the Thai (Chinese) mindset this means: Offer red lemonade, get shitloads of GOLD!!!

Odd eh ?? as in nature Red is a sign of danger.

I think we all know the answer anyway, have you ever seen an empty bottle at the shrines?? nah nor me , unless it evaporated.

I asked this question of the missus a few months back and her answer is as follows. Because they believe that kids like red soda more than other flavors, and these are for the kid ghosts.
