How To Get A Thai Id Card ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm chinese and holder a Hong Kong Passpart. Now I live in Thailand with a Business Visa [1 year]

My mom is Thai but I born in Hong Kong. Anyone can told me how I can get a Thai ID Card ?

Many Thanks,

I think that if you were born outside Thailand then your mother would have to get you a Thai Birth Certificate from the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate in the country of your birth. She should contact the Royal Thai Consulate General in Hong Kong. See Thai Birth Certificate registration.

You can use your Thai Birth Certificate and House registration to get your Thai Id. Afterwards, you can use your Thai Id to get your Thai Passport.

I think the simple way would be to get a Thai driver's license. I use mine for nearly everthing and have no problems. I have never been asked for my visa or passport.

Do you play golf? Tiger Woods had the same problem but because he makes so much money the Thai's just threw him a Thai ID card hoping that some of his $'s would stick to it!

1) Register at Thai consulate in HK as a Thai citizen and get a Thai birth certificate issued to you.

2) At the consulate, then apply for a Thai passport.

3) Re-enter thailand on that Thai passport.

4) Go to the Ampur where your mother has a house registration, and get added to the house book.

5) Once you are in the book, you can get the ID issued.

You should have your mum or a close relative on hand for 4 and 5 and ideally your mother to vouch for you.

The process can be a bit time consuming, but can be done above board. One word of warning however, if you are still under 30, you WILL be liable for military serivce, so it may be an idea to stay off the house registration book until then. No problem however in gettng the Thai BC and Passport now though (in HK). That does not bring you to the attention of the military authorities.

Isn't that one of the requirement is to be able to read/write thai resonably? At least that's what they told me at the Ampur Bangkapi any way. You don't have to be as good as the thais but good enough to fill out some basic forms youself.

I believe that is a requirement only if you are applying for Thai Citizenship on a basis other than by descent; i.e. if you are a Foreign national and have been here as a Permanent Resident for the required period of time and decide to apply for Thai Nationality. Under those circumstances you are expected to show reasonable fluency in the Thai language.

I understood he declined the offer.
