Hi all,

I have a question regarding the possibility of a Thai girl receiving CSA from the UK. The short story is my ex has twins from her ex bf, she has obtained British passports for them by going to court with him which is great. I want to know if it is possible for her to obtain child support from him, she is in Thailand now and with it being twins I am starting to get severely annoyed at his lack of responsibility, for example when they were born he held them and then went to phuket the same evening. They are his 100%.

I've searched around but found nothing concrete about this, my gut feeling says she has no power to do anything, my main concern is that he wants the babies to go to the UK for primary school, I advised against that as i think if he didn't want to send them back she would be powerless to do anything?. You may be wondering why I care, we were together for many years and split amicably, I just want to make sure she gets what she is entitled to that's all.

Thanks for any useful advice guys, I hope this is the best section to post in.

The UK does have reciprocal enforcement of maintenance orders with over 100 countries, but I'm not sure if Thailand is one of them.

But it does seem designed for those who live in the UK with their children while the other parent living abroad.

I did find this from Siam Legal, but it does seem to apply only if both parents are in living in Thailand.

I think she is going to need legal help to get any money out of him.

Let her contact a citizens advice bureau to ask about child support.

Don't forget that the twins are British citizens with all rights as such, and a claim for child support is made on their behalf. Not necessarily on behalf of the mother.

I guess as he is offering uk education as an option it would be an amazing opportunity for the children as opposed to slumming it in Thailand. She could discuss the possibility of coming with them and he do the good thing and offer her support as she is the mother of his sons, he done it his problem. Good on you for being so concerned. Good luck to her Thailand is no place for children to grow up unless there are no options. Wealthy Thai's generally don't want their kids to grow up in Thailand so if options of Uk school are there help her find a way.
