Took a walk for the first time to the Pattaya lighthouse today. Maybe this has been covered before, but what's the deal with the Pattaya Marina? Looks like fairly new floating docks but nobody seems to be using it. Is this a project that ran out of money? If developed correctly, the land in that area could be extremely valuable. Unfortunately, it has to be one of the most polluted pieces of land on earth. The smell of oil and gas is overwhelming. For you ex-military, I felt I should have been in MOPP 4 going into that area.

Anyway, just curious about the marina.

Hi Bob,

The marina was built to take all the polluting speed boats. The idea is to put in air docks which are all there now so the speed boats can be lifted out.

......and the floating docks have been in place for at least a couple of months now without a single speedboat ever using one. I'm watching with interest to see what happens.

Also in the same area, did the bizarre multi storey car park built in the middle of Bali Hai park ever open for business? And what are they doing breaking up the pier at the moment?

I drove by there with my wife the other day.

She was appalled at all the trash, fuel and oil laying about.

"All that oil will go into the sea when it rains" she mentioned.

Apparently the people that make their living on the water have no regard for the environment.

You would think someone from City Hall would have noticed this...

Oh, this building in the middle is a car park ?!

And not just an ordinary car park. You drive your onto a ramp and then some elaborate machinery takes it away and stores it in a slot. This is a good design for long term car parks with very few movements, completely useless for a place with a high turnover. And when it breaks down your car could be stuck in there for days.

Nah, the car park looks finished from the outside but continues to add to the ugliness and chaos down there. i don't suppose that will change when it opens either.

The start of the pier is being repaired/replaced so no vehicles bigger than a samlor allowed on for the foreseeable. That's probably what it was designed for anyway.

I didn;t know about the boat lifts planned for the marina. Sounds good as owners will not leave their speed boats in the water overnight. (and much easier to drain oil straight into the sea!)

Saw some pics of the PM visiting Pattaya and it looked (on the background) that the boats are already moored IN the new marina. Can someone confirm this? No longer boats along the street?
