Hey All,

I want to give my Samsung smart phone to my lady friend. I'm not sure how cell phones actually work, though.

1.If I take out my sim card, and she puts hers in, is the phone associated with me anymore? I have the concern that somehow she's going to use the phone, and I'm still going to be charged for international data rates, even with her sim card in phone.

2. Will she have my phone #?

2.Once she puts her sim in the phone, can she start using it right away, or does it need to be reprogrammed? If so, how is that done?

3.The phone is in English, and she needs it in Thai. Can this be remedied?

I appreciate any help.

No, once the SIM is out, no charges can be associated to you. Of course you should run a Factory Reset to remove your Contacts etc.

Fo Thai it may be possible to update the software, dependent on the model. Can often be done for 200 baht or so in MBK or similar.

Can you share any details re: the exact model number of your Samsung Smartphone? I'm thinking it might be an Android model, but it could be Bada.

Where did you buy this Samsung smartphone?

Where are your and your lady-friend's SIM from? Thailand?

Asked again: exact model number, this is very important.

I'm guessing your phone is un-locked? And is not associated with any service provider in the U.S.? And that you've associated it with your GMail account? Which service provider do you use in the U.S.?

It is challenging to answer your questions with limited/no details.

Minimally I would do a full factory re-set, then re-initialize the phone allowing your lady friend to set it up with her GMail account, and insert her SIM. She will not have your telephone number, and just inserting the SIM and starting the phone should be enough for service, assuming she is in Thailand. She may have to do some additional configuration if she plans to use mobile data. The phone may or may not support the Thai language and/or have a Thai keyboard. You could look of course; Settings, Language & input, Language, scroll down and look for Thai ( ไทย ). And Keyboard & input methods. A Thai keyboard is relatively easy to find in the Play Store and can be added, but if your firmware doesn't support Thai you may be hosed, and need to flash a different stock ROM.

I have re-sold Android devices here, so I find the current Android firmware release for the Thai model, and then flash that using ODIN.

It's really important that you do a Reset and ensure your google account is removed. Otherwise she could start using your credit card in the Play Store (assuming you've set that up).
