I've been trying to finger out where Phangyan is,...... so as to try and help biggrin.pngtongue.png

Koh Phangan is a different amphur and therefor has a different mayor.

And does koh tao also have a different mayor?

I believe there is a "Provincial Office" in Nathon. I am sure they could answer your questions.

#6 is correct.

Koh Tao comes under KPG for administrative purposes (inc policing). I'm not sure whether they have a Mayor.

Now I've slept on this, I don't think it was a dream !!! wink.pngtongue.png

The Mayor's Office on KP is (or was?) located between Tongsala and See Thanu, headed up the west side road... after the hilly bit of road, and before the straight stretch before the Mangroves...

There must be a member of two that uses that bit of road, that can verify if it's still there ? wink.png

Limbos's post would seem to verify KP still has it's own Mayor! thumbsup.gif

Per definition Amphurs has not a mayor but a district chief officer (Nai Amphoe, นายอำเภอ), who is appointed by the Ministry of the Interior.

Originally KPG was administrated from Samui but became an own Amphur 1977 together with Tao.

The one we call the mayor is the leader of the Thesaban nakhon Samui (city municipality) and is elected.

KPG is a Thesaban tambon, separat from Thesaban nakhon Samui.

Can you call someone that runs a municipality that's not a city a mayor?

I am not going to the office to ask them lol

I am just interested it is not a priority thing

Just was interested

Was interested I the people in koh phangan vote for the mayor in Samui when there are elections

I remember after a shooting in koh phangan the mayor announced he was going to make koh phangan a guns not allowed zone so he must have power there

If the locals cannot vote then this is not fare that they cannot have a say in who runs their island

Here BigC, learn a little bit about the local government and how it works, its amazing how much better you understand how things work (and don't work) when you do.

Koh Phangan does not have enough registered inhabitants to be a Tessaban although it certainly has enough people living on the island for it. It is a Tessban Tambon or Sub District Municipality.

Elected officials include the Or Bor Dor (Subdistrict or Tambon Administration Organization) then Puyaiban (village heads).

There are three Tambon in Amphoe Koh Phangan: Koh Phangan, Ban Tai and Koh Tao (which falls under A. Koh Phangan).

The Nai Amphoe is not elected and he essentially runs the place but then neither is the Governor of Surat Thani, who is' also appointed as is every other governor in the country except Bangkok which elects their Governor. Thailand is a highly centralized country and very few major decisions are ever made at the local level.
