markuk
I think a poll would have been useful for you in this threadtotster I agree a poll would be better. For sake of the question I live in a condo, i pay 70k per month, the company pays it. Average pay between 30-40k? that doesnt even meet minimum requirements? i am glad i am not average!!! Bull
I live in a condo, two bed, two bathrooms, pool and gym in central Bangkok. I afford this (and many oy other things) by working hard... (which I guess is not a trait of the average farang in Thailand). 30,000-40,000 would only see me here on holiday... Bull
Doza
Condo (alone), one bedroom, pool, gym, upper Sukhumvit. Afford by working in normal job. the average pay for a farang working in thailand is between 30000 and 40000 per month Are you sure about that? Perhaps you should start socialising with some different people or different places and you'll discover there are more 'expats' here than you think (as opposed to ESL teachers etc). What other jobs pay 3 - 4 K???

Seems like it is the same price as other posters on this thread so I'm merely confirming the "going rate". I agree though, I've been renting this place for two years now - about 25K GBP so far.... However I don't have a Thai wife and am not too keen on the other ways to buy property here. Also property seems a bit overpriced at the moment. Maybe worth your while if your going to rent long term. Cheers Noodles.

skylar
I'm a little suprised that about 10 years ago, my family was paying 60,000 baht a month for a three bedroom, four bathroom apartment in middle Sukhumvit with a sauna, pool, jacuzzi and gym. Was it just really expensive back then?
autonomous_unit
We were renting a 2 bedroom condo w/ tiny electric-stove kitchen in Bangkoknoi, just a short ride over the Pinklao bridge from Sanam Luang, for about 20k/month for a while. Had a pool, gym, and spa and I got the impression it was considered a little up-scale for the area but seemed merely adequate to me. (I have since come to realize most buildings in BKK seem dark and dingy to a western eye, and we were on the 10th floor at the "bottom" of the building.) I think Thai inhabitants of the building ranged from middle class college students and office workers to doctors. The area is less touristy than central BKK, but you still see a smattering of farangs. We chose it after about 3 days of hunting around the vicinity after landing in country (based largely on proximity to my wife's new job). I have trouble judging apartments here, as even this seemed cheap at 1/3 the price we paid for a similarly sized (and vaguely depressing) 1 bedroom apartment in a large US city. Now we're in a nice little 3 bedroom house my wife bought a bit further into suburban BKK, for a little peace and quiet and freedom from rent. I managed to force my way and get a western kitchen with gas range and oven, but now I have to undo my habits from the condo and start cooking again. Also, we got here ahead of telephone and ADSL service.
bendix
Whenever people post on here about how much they pay in rent, the usual protests come out. 'Why so much?" "I thought people moved to Thailand to save money." etc etc People come to Thailand for a variety of reasons, some personal, some professional and I don't think anyone has a right to judge how they choose to spend their money. I came here for work. I love to live in a nice place. I pay 60k for a huge, modern, 220 square meter place with two huge bedrooms, three bathrooms, maids room, pool, luxury gym, sauna etc . . and all on Suk Soi 11. Am I paying too much? No, because it's my choice to use a proportion of my income for a comfortable life? I've seen nothing comparable for less than 90,000. How can I afford it? By working hard and earning a good salary. Should I buy a place? Yes. Will I? Yes? When? My damned business. One of the reasons I left the west was the tall poppy syndrome. Seems you can't escape it, even here. Do you have any idea how much big business is in Thailand, almost every international company has some presence in Thailand. That means farang management usually and high salaries. Jeez...even the top managment at the big international schools are on top dollar - and I'm talking well over the 2K mark.

Khutan
I live in a 2 Bedroom Condo with all the stuff. I like it and enjoy being in the middle of everything. Tall Poppies, or just jealousy. I am not sure, some people are very materialistic and yearn for the success that thers have.
