Driving From Chiang Mai To Bangkok-Hotel Recco

Recommended Posts

Just drove up from Bangers (Samut P)to Chiang Mai (include.wife and 2 friends)and apart from a coffee break almost went non stop which I must admit to having found rather exhaustive...knackering even.

Got to do the run again over the next month or so..3-4 times and will def stop off but does anyone have Hotel reccos/gin joints on route.

Thinking maybe somewhere halfway say Nakon Sawan but for time being mai ko jai.

Thanks..R

Hi Rinrada,

We usually stay at the Bonito Chinos Hotel in Nakhon Sawan. That is at 3/4th. of the distance between CNX and BKK and works fine for us every time.

Leave CNX some time in the morning and arriving in NS around 5-7pm....

Next day, no stress, wake up around 8, get a good breakfast, start driving and enter BKK just after the crazy morning rush....

Also on the way back,.... we leave BKK around lunch time,.... arrive in NS a few hours later (we drive relaxed) spend the evening there and continue the relaxed drive to CNX the following day.

We've paid between 750-1200 THB per room/night stay depending on season/availability (do give them a call to check as they sometimes have those busloads filling the hotel up for the night.)

Tel: 056-222277, 081-973-7070, 081-379-3131 / 7 Fax: 056-224411

Nakhon Sawan has plenty of other hotels/guesthouses in case you like something cheaper or more fancy,.... it is there.

Also followed up and checked with Agoda which gives good rates at around 800 bt a night...

Thanks R

For me Nakhon Sawan is too close to Bangkok.. Once there I might add well go the whole way.

The place that is exactly in the middle is Kamphaeng Phet. Some hotels there along the river. And there's quite a bit to see if you want. (Historical sites)

Eventually went for an overnight stay in Kam Peng Pt.

Had some business to deal with in Tac so worked out about right.

Stayed at Navirat Hotel(spelling might be wrong)which has basic rooms but OK .

Staff are the most important aspect of any hotel and they were indeed very helpful.

As said rooms so so but good TV with lots of channels,A/C,Fridge,Hot shower plus usuals and breakfast was nice.

Location Ok near river and next to market.

Had a late walk to look for a bar but MKJai ...place was "sleepy"so ended up back in hotel lounge listening to the singer....con dea...early night.

Gota drive back again this week so might try the other slightly bigger hotel on the riverside.

Will have to do yet another R/T trip at end of July so any further suggestions most welcome..

This time stopped off at The Vieng Tak Riverview Hotel (beside the river ..obviously) in Tak...not 2 bad.

Big rooms,Brekki OK,Nightclub,Bar ,Terrace etc and a late market next door..for cooked fried chicken at 10 Bt a chunk.

Place dead at night apart from the hotel.

Would use again....@ 700 Bt /night

@Rinrada

Got to do the run again before end of July (7 Seas pick up from Port) and thought about given Mae Sot a try for overnight stay.

Its slightly further east that Tak "town" but the Centaras location looks pretty good for a stay.

Any other hotel reccos and nearby gin joints in the area.

Also been reading that the border crossing will be upgraded and should hopefully make a good change from "Toomstone" Mae Sai....

.any info appreciated...r

Agree that the drive in one day is quite knackersome [is that a Brittish word?]. The last time we drove down to Pattaya, a bit further than BKK, we stopped off at Ayutaya and stayed in an almost decent hotel.....late at night and too tired to find a better place....but OK. That was about 75% of the way down and left an easy 25% to make it to Pattaya at an early hour.

The return, we stopped off in Tak at a decent hotel that was only 300, right on the hiway.....forget the name, but a quite large building.
