saweden
Thing is, I need a height adjustable desk. I can't live without it, being a woman that spends many long hours at her computer for various reasons mostly having to do with work and writing of books. Before purchasing my current height adjustable desk I suffered from various bodily injuries from sitting too much, so please don't mock me. So I've been considering the options of getting a height adjustable desk to Samui (moving to Samui September 1st) 1. Send my current height adjustable desk from Sweden to Thailand with Travel Cargo. In that case, it would arrive in Bangkok, requiring me to pick it up and transport it to Samui myself. I have no idea how. It's heavy as XXXXX, even if I only bother with the frame and the "legs" that do the up and down thing. (sorry English is not my first language) Meaning I don't send the desk top itself, only the mechanism. 2. Buy one on Samui, but that's probably not possible, here I ask for your advice dear Thai Visa members. Could there be anywhere to buy one on Samui? I already know there aren't any in Tesco or Big C. But perhaps there's an office furniture shop I don't know about?? 3. Buy one in Bangkok, (I'm sure they have an IKEA??) and have it sent to Samui, pray to the Gods it gets there. Last time I had something sent to Samui it took about a month to arrive and it was only papers. I humbly ask for and appreciate your advice. This is important to me. Thank you. PoorSucker
1. That could take very long time. Customs will tax you to the max. 2. Never seen one on the Island. 3. Look here: http://www.ikea.com/th/en/search/?query=adjustable+desk&pageNumber=1 Is this what you are looking for? http://standupdesksthailand.myshopify.com/ http://www.ledesignthailand.com/product.php?id_product=60
Battybird
Unlikely you'd find one in Samui and that sort of thing would be very difficult to have made. Ikea probably your best bet.

This one would be fairly easy to make...few bits of box section and a wooden top is all by the looks of it

Oh crap didn't think of the tax. 2. Oh well was worth a shot, people always tell me "you can buy anything on Samui, even a Harley Davidson" 3. Yep it's the IKEA Galant one I have but they don't seem to sell the height adjustable one in Thailand (?). I can't find it on the listing. It should be around 20 000 baht and have the feature where you can adjust it. If I order the one from "Myshopify thailand" is says it has "Free Shipping in Thailand" will they actually deliver it to a house on Samui? Do you have any experience in getting furniture delivered to Samui from the main land? Thanks again.

Bought all our baby stuff up in Bangkok and they arranged shipment to Samui so you should have a problem with that

Delivery to your door can be tricky as they would need a map. The address system goes by the logic that they are numbered after the order the plot of land is issued a landtitle. So your are lucky if the mail-man knows where your address is. When I got things delivered from mainland a few calls to my wife (in thai) results in them finding. PS. I speak Swedish. saweden
Not sure where we will live yet, but it won't be anywhere desolate. I will order the thing from Myshopify now that I feel confident it can be delivered to Samui. Many thanks!

I still need a height adjustable desk (for sitting and standing) I never actually managed to purchase one from "Stand up desk Thailand", their website seemed to have closed down. IKEA don't sell any in Thailand. I'm out of ideas. Currently using a small bar type table to stand at and move to use my laptop on the couch when I get tired. Problem is I get tired before finishing what needs to be doing on the "big" comp.

Although not height adjustable, I think it would not be that hard to find a welder to do, some thing like the one pictured above... You'd buy the materials and provide drawing... I think can be done.... at a reasonable price ... PM me if you want, and I will try to connect you with someone who I think could do it....
rwdrwdrwd
I've been searching as well - no luck within Thailand yet, unfortunately The closest I have found is Singapore - https://sites.google.com/site/electriclifter/ but duty on office desks is 80%, which is why I haven't got one. They were willing to break it down though (well, sell without the top at least), which might help reduce duty somewhat.
saweden
Not sure about having one made. I have bad experience with having stuff made here And here we're talking an electronic feature also. I have however considered having a better stand-up only desk made after my own design. One can always hope that the "stand up desk Thailand" store is only temporarily down and will return soon

Not all stuff made by people here is bad... I have had some good experiences..... I would not recommend some one who does crap work...
StillDragon Australia
Not to sound stupid, but could you put a chair on a movable step at a stand up desk or counter? Seems the simplest solution.

rwdrwdrwd
Was just browsing for an ergonomic chair and noticed that there's quite a nice looking standing desk system from RicheMuller - http://issuu.com/richemullerergonomic/docs/richemuller_ergonomic_system_catalo 47k though, and not electric - looks smart though
islandguy
Are you still in need of this desk? I wonder if an alternate solution might be to have two different desks, one stand up and one sit down. If you are using both a pc and a laptop you could network them to change desks without much trouble. If you are only using one laptop that would be easy to transfer. You could have two power cords for the laptop set up if you wish (nice to have two anyway, the bad electricity here is hard on cord/transformers). Having one or two fixed height simple desks/tables made would not be very hard here on Samui.
ThaiSanookGuy
Hello, Any update on this ? Ikea still not selling standing desks in Thailand ? Thanks.
ArfurMaggot
It seems to me that you have two problems here. Your desk is the wrong height for you You intend to work too much. The solution really is quite simple. Hire a local as a secretary. You can get them in all different sizes and you will surely find one to fit your current desk. rwdrwdrwd
There's this one, not sure of the price but I bought a new ErgoHuman chair from these guys recently and am very happy with it - http://dfprochair.com/detail-sd3.php All in thai, but looks like a mechanical adjustable desk from 68 - 88cm - might just be a big sitting desk rather than a standing one. Alternatively I posted a link to a Thai stockist of an expensive but definite standing desk a few posts back.
